Planning agendas/meetings: In my intern team I was responsible for planning meetings with my peers in
order to discuss current progress on our deliverables.
Setting up demonstrations: Once a week, our team would present our progress on our application to our
mentor, and our supporting team. This would include a live demonstration of our application, and a
question and answer session.
Analyzing data: During development, I had to analyze data that I was pulling from different APIs to
ensure the validity and uniqueness of the data being collected.
Sketching charts or diagrams: Before development of our application could begin, I was partially
responsible for creating a data flow diagram to blueprint how our application would handle acquiring,
storing, and accessing data.
Writing reports: Throughout the development process, our team had a large document for our application.
This document included instructions on how to use the application, information about how the application
was built, and legal information regarding licenses that were used in the application.
Prioritizing work: Near the end of a development cycle, I would have to select which features or bugs
needed to be addressed. Not all features could be implemented, and not all bugs could be resolved in time
for our demonstration. Thus, I had to prioritize which features or bugs were most important to the
functionality of our product.
Imagining new solutions: There were several moments during my internship where I suggested new ideas
or solutions for our current build. These were not all implemented, however they were well received.
Investigating problems: When an error was found in our program, I would investigate to see what was
causing the error, and how it could be resolved. This was done both by manual inspection, and automated
testing.
Coordinating schedules/times: When our team wanted to meet with our mentor, I was partially
responsible for scheduling times that all members were available.
Thinking in a logical manner: As a software engineer, thinking logically is really the description of the
job. Every day I thought in a logical manner to find the best solutions to the problems at hand.
Expressing ideas orally to individuals or groups: Every day at work, our team would have a short
meeting. During this meeting I would consistently explain my ideas of how we could solve a problem or
add a new feature.
Developing plans for projects: Once a week, our team would have a planning meeting. Here we would
develop a plan for our work week, and then partition the tasks amongst the team members.
Knowledge of concepts and principles: I utilized my knowledge of the Java programming language, the
Amazon Dynamo Database system, the Atlassian stack, and a few other technologies relevant to the
software engineering discipline.
