NOTES:
 (PCSO/Gangs: Det. J. Aitchison) Was assisting one of PCSO’s directed Patrol
Units in the Foothills with work involving White Supremist groups.
Two subjects of interest were AARON SCHMIDT and TRAVIS REECE, both
associated with Vinlanders and both off parole around August of last year. This
group is high on the radar in the Phoenix area. They have been involved in more
than the typical “White boy violence”, including Home Invasions and Homicides,
which SCHMIDT is a suspect of.

The Vinlanders have been very active in Tucson, with many members wearing
their gang jackets. They have been causing problems such as bar fights, DUIs, and
Assaults.
They went back to Phoenix for a time, did a couple Home Invasions, and a
Homicide. REECE was picked up for three counts of Aggravated Assault, having
stabbed three people.
During the directed patrol, contact was made with SCHMIDT. He was wearing
his Doc Martens with red laces and he had a number of political tattoos. He said
that the Vinlanders were laying low trying to take care of their families, work, and
have a “normal” life. Coincidentally Vinlander activity quiets down when homicides
occur. He said that there are three Vinlander “made men” living in Tucson.
SCHMIDT lives in Catalina.
Regarding the Vinlander process, he said that they usually try to recruit “big”
guys and it takes about three years to become a “made man”. Personally, he has a
bomber jacket with a Finnish flag (blue cross on white background). This identifies
him as an “associate”. When you are a “made man” your jacket will also say
“Vinlander”.
They are associated with Canyon State Skin Heads up in Flagstaff / Phoenix
areas. They have been involved in many political rallies, most recently having to do
with Hispanic rights. They are very “Skin Head” in that they do not condone drug
involvement (handling, selling, using, etc.)
Rumor has it that they are associated with Hell’s Angels. He says that is not true.
The Hell’s Angels only hired Vinlanders to do some security work at some of their
parties. Vinlanders are not a motorcycle gang and are mostly racial / political.
(DOC/Parole-South: R. Havens) REECE was on my caseload. He had
discussed the symbolism behind the colored shoelaces saying red stood for “spilling
blood for the race” and white stood for “White Pride”.
 (DOC/Parole-South: R. Havens) Next Wednesday will be the monthly STG meeting
in the Parole Office conference room, 4600 S Park Avenue, at 1330 hours.

CASES:
 (TPD/Gangs: Sgt. F. Hand) Reference TPD Inc# 1004110066 on 260 S Church,
Shots Fired behind Hotel Arizona, behind the Music Hall, in the Tucson Convention
Center complex. Several dozen people were milling around the parking lot
afterwards. They were cleared out to secure the crime scene. Several .45 caliber
shell casings were found in the parking lot.
A TCC Security Officer, CHRISTOPHER SANCHEZ, said he witnessed the
event. He said he saw a sky blue Chevy Caprice with dark tinted windows and
twenty-inch wire spoke rims was driving through the center isle of the parking lot
when it stopped midway down. The driver, and unknown Black male, pulled out a
gun and began firing shots. SANCHEZ said he could see muzzle flashes as it

occurred and that just after he opened fire several other people in the parking lot
returned fire from their vehicles. He said the Caprice, occupied by five subjects,
exited the parking lot leaving North bound on Granada.
A bullet fragment and shell casings were located just East of the center isle. Also
located was a brown hooded sweat jacket and black orange Nike Air tennis shoe.
Photographs were taken. There were no reported victims.
Later that night, VICTOR UHMEH called in stating that his vehicle was struck in
the parking lot leaving a bullet hole in the bottom left hand corner of his maroon
Chevy Impala.
Also later that night, reference TPD Inc# 1004110075, LARRY NICHOLS went to
Saint Mary’s hospital, as a shooting victim. He was uncooperative with Officers. He
arrived in white Chevy Tahoe two-door with twenty-inch chrome wheels. He
wouldn’t talk to Officers, wouldn’t say where the incident occurred, or what
happened. He refused to be a victim, did not want to prosecute, and refused to
have photographs taken. Officers did retrieve surveillance video though.
Then, reference TPD Inc# 1004110148, MUNDELE MULATO (dob:08/14/83)
arrived at UMC, at approximately 0300 hours, with a gunshot wound. He was in an
operating room when Officers arrived at the hospital.
When questioned, he claimed to have been shot somewhere on the South side
at a house party, either on 6th Avenue or 12th Avenue. He refused to be a victim and
refused to prosecute. Said that he couldn’t identify any of the suspects.
His clothing was taken as evidence. The shirt he wore when he arrived at the
hospital did not have bullet holes in it. He used to associate with GIL NICHOLS,
who is LARRY NICHOLS’ older brother.
It is thought that these three incidents are related.
 (TPD/Gangs: Det. G. Diaz) Reference TPD Inc# 1004140593, a Shooting in the
area of W Congress Street / N Grande Avenue involving victim ROBERT VALDEZ, a
former gang member.
He was with his girlfriend ANALISA MORENO and her cousin ALBERT LOPEZ
at Quik-Stop when they see a couple guys, that they had issues with, walk into the
store. The guys are ROSENDO “Endo” MUÑOZ (Barrio Hollywood) and OSCAR
“Bubbles” ESPINOZA
The issue had to do with an Easter Sunday get-together at 915 W Franklin Street
where “Bubbles” and “Endo” were. VALDEZ shows up with ANALISA. There is
drinking, shooting, throwing rocks, and brawling. Incidentally, or intentionally, “Endo”
throws a large rock at VALDEZ and ANALISA. She is struck and suffers a large
bruise.
Now, days later, at the Quik-Stop, VALDEZ and LOPEZ decide to confront “Endo”
and “Bubbles”. They get into a verbal altercation.
Witnesses say that it spills out into the street, they begin to go North bound on
Grande, somebody takes a swing at somebody else, and then the “short fat guy”

pulls a gun and shoots the victim, VALDEZ. “Endo” and “Bubbles” drop their beer
and run away, disappearing into the neighborhood.
The “short fat guy” is “Bubbles”. Witnesses say that 2-3 shots were fired.
VALDEZ suffered one gut shot. VALDEZ was taken to Saint Mary’s, where he says
he does not want to prosecute. He was transported to UMC in critical condition. He
is surviving his injury.
“Bubbles” girlfriend said that he called her and admitted everything to her. He
has supposedly fled to Mexico.
If anybody has any information or current location on OSCAR “Bubbles”
ESPINOZA, please contact me at 351-4452.
 (TPD/Gangs: Det. M. Cassel) Responded to 123 S Westmoreland, reference TPD
Inc# 1004130688, where OMAR “Cuate” LEYVA (dob:08/02/91) was shot in the
street. He succumbed to his injuries upon arriving at UMC.
Presently, the suspect is HERIBERTO GARCIA AVALOS (dob:04/05/89). There
is an arrest warrant out on him. He is probably in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.
During the investigation, RENE DOE (address:122 S Westmoreland) was
arrested. Almost two pounds of marijuana was found in the trunk of his car as more
than forty individually wrapped units. Also, more than sixty-seven grams of hashish
was found.
Apparently, LEYVA had gone to the house, probably to make a drug purchase.
DOE probably set up the deal, and GARCIA is friends with everyone involved. A
fight broke out, GARCIA chases LEYVA, shoots him, pistol-whips him, and then runs
off.
LEYVA is the twin of ELMER LEYVA. An hour after death notification, ELMER
was kicking in the suspect’s apartment door. We are looking for ELMER and expect
to find him at funeral services for his brother this morning.
If anybody knows where GARCIA is, I can be reached at 351-4459.

Meeting adjourned at 1000 hours
