REQUEST FOR INFORMATION RELATING TO THE DECLARATION OF
ASSETS BY PUBLIC OFFICE HOLDERS
I am Lolan Ekow Sagoc-Moses, a citizen of Ghana and a registered voter and I
write to you on the above subject, on behalf of the CitizenGhana Movement
(CGM)}, a civil society group dedicated to the cause of good governance, social
justice and social accountability, of which | am a member,
As you are aware, Article 286 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana states
in clause 1 as follows:
“A person who holds a public office mentioned in clause (5) of this article shall
submit to the Auditor-General a written declaration of all property or assets owned
by, or liabilities owed by, him whether directly or indirectly —
(a) within three months after the coming into force of this Constitution or before
taking office, as the case may be,
(b) at the end of every four years; and
(c) at the end of his term of office.”
It is also provided in sections 1 and 4 of the Public Office Holders (Declaration of
Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998, Act 550 as follows:
“(1) Pursuant to article 286 of the Constitution, a person who holds a public office
mentioned in section 3 shall submit to the Auditor-General a written declaration of
{athe properties or assets owned whether directly or indirectly by that person, and
(b}the tiabi
ies owned whether directly or indirectly by that person.
(4) In accordance with clause (1) of article 286 of the Constitution, the declaration
shall be made by the public officer
