Thank you to everyone who has contributed money or a basket so far. A big thank-you to
Peggy Miller, Catherine McLoughlin, Jeanne Mills and Nan Quinn for hosting parties to bring in
gift cards. Together, they contributed over $1,600 in gift cards! If you have not yet done so,
please either send $50 to Pam Fetzer or contact a member of our hardworking basket team
(Catherine McLoughlin, Jeanne Mills and Sandy Starr) to donate your basket items. We still
have many fun basket theme ideas if you need one.
Do you know an organization who might like to be one of our event sponsors? If you have
some ideas or need information about our sponsorship program, please contact Marianne
Houston.
MEET BARBARA GARRETT

Barbara was a war era baby born in Philadelphia, Pa. where her parents were
completing their professional degrees— her mother as a pediatrician and her
father as an attorney. When Barbara was 11, her parents moved to Los Angeles
and had 2 more children. Her brother is 11yrs. younger and a chemistry
professor at UCI while her sister, who is 14 years younger, is an attorney for the
state of Hawaii. After high school, Barbara attended UCLA and earned an
English degree and a teaching credential. She taught English at middle schools
for 32 years. She has lost 2 husbands to cancer but gained a daughter and 2
grandchildren. She bought a house in The Gallery 15 years ago and just
recently moved back full time. A myriad of hobbies occupy her time such as
art, poetry, digital photography and playing the ukulele. (Her mother was raised
in Hilo and Barbara is half Chinese.) She will be displaying her art at the Susi Q
Community and Senior Center on 3rd Street in Laguna Beach beginning on
January 15th; they change the display every 6 weeks. The theme is Love
Letters and her ukulele group will also be playing love songs. Welcome Barbara!

Dianne presented our gift cards,

which were collected at the
Christmas luncheon, to Karen
McGurk-Mish, Pediatric Manager
and Melissa Kawanaka, Child Life
Specialist at Mission Hospital.
They totaled $410 and, needless to
say, the ladies were excited and
thrilled to receive our generous
contributions. Kudos to you all!

Our February meeting will be held on Monday, February 19th, at 10 a.m. at

Talega Country with lunch to follow the meeting. Plan to stay!
