Section A- Comprehension

I) Read the story of Titanic and answer the questions given below

Titanic means very large, this was the name of a passenger ship that sank in
1912, taking the lives of fifteen hundred people. Titanic was called the unsinkable ship,
she was built like a 5 star hotel and people were very proud of her.

This is how it happened. It was the night of April the 14th. Most of the passengers
were asleep. Suddennly at 11.40 p.m the watchman saw a huge iceberg right in the path
of the ship. Captain Smith rushed up and tried to steer the ship away, but couldn’t and
she hit the mountain of ice, it cut holes along the side of the ship.

Captain and the crew could not stop the water flooding the ship. They knew that
the unsinkable ship was sinking.

The captain sent urgent messages to other ships to help Titanic and asked the
passengers who were frightened and cold to go into the lifeboats. Unfortunately there
were only a few lifeboats, so all the women and children were put on the life boats. The
men watched silently as their wives and children went in the boats.

At 2.20 a.m. Titanic with her lights still shining sank. Captain Smith and most of
the crew went down with the ship.

A ship called Carpathia arrived 3 hours later and rescued seven hundred people.
Almost all the people in the water had drowned or died of cold.

Now its the rule that all ships must carry enough lifeboats for all the passengers on
board.
