The aim of this activity is to design a car from basic materials that is both fast, but yet able to prevent an
egg from breaking when raced down a ramp and into the wall. Students will be comparing data with
other groups from class to gauge the effectiveness of their design. The project must fit in within the
specifications given. During this unit on forces and motion you have learned about the effects of
potential energy, gravity, drag and mass on impact force. Keep these factors in mind when designing
your module and car.
In the previous labs, many students used designs to slow the fall of the module egg (Egg Drop &
Parachute Lab). That is not the goal of this lab. The goal is to reduce force at impact with the module.
As a result, the module has to be able to fit into the car design. The goal of car design/construction IS
to reduce the force at impact while being as fast as possible.
Will your group be able to design a crash test egg car (CTEC) that will be able to both win races against
other cars in class while protecting the egg when it crashes into the wall?
Mass = ___._____kg
Attach the picture of CTE Car design 2.0 here: (20 points)
3= it’s a car
2= it’s a moped
0= not done
Part V. Design (20 points, you will only fill out one of the two)
The main design feature that enabled our egg to survive was: __________________

The main design feature that caused our CTE to break was:

PART VI. Conclusion: (40 points)
If you do not properly refer to data (car velocity & force), and compare your results with the rest of the
class (egg survival) you will receive zero (0) points on your conclusion.
Your velocity & force vs. the other groups in class, indicating which groups had eggs survive
and eggs crash.
