STRENGTH OF MATERIALS –I

OBJECTIVES AND OUT COMES

Objectives:

1. Understand the basic concept of the stress and strain for different materials.
2. Know the mechanism of development of shear force and bending moments in
beams.
3. Understand and analyze the stresses for the combined action of direct load and
Bending Moment.
4. Students will be able to define Principal Stresses and strains and different theories of
failure.
5. Know the concept of unsymmetrical bending and shear centre for different
members.

Outcomes:

1. Apply the fundamental concepts of stress and strain in the design of various
structural components.
2. Analyze determinate beams to determine shear forces, bending moments and design
forces in trusses.
3. Determine the bending stresses and shear stresses produced in a beam subjected to
system of loads.
4. Student will be able to define principal stresses and strains and understand why
material fractures on planes other than the plane over which the tensile force is
applied.
5. Solve problems involving unsymmetrical bending in structural members.

MECHANICS OF MATEERIALS LABORATORY

OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

Objectives:

1. Understand the experiments on various materials to access their behaviour and


limitations.
2. Learn the brittle and ductile material failure patterns
3. Understand the shear force, bending moment and deflection for different types of
beams.
4. Know the rigidity modulus by conducting spring and torsion test.

Outcomes:

1. Evaluate Young’s modulus, hardness number, flexural rigidity and impact strength of
given specimens.
2. Find the cracking stress and compressive strength of bricks
3. Determine the stiffness of close coiled helical springs.
4. Find deflection of a beam.

ENGINEERING MECHANICS-I
OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

Objectives:

1. To understand the resolution of forces, equilibrium and compatibility conditions of static


loads.
2. To determine the various forces in the members, and analyse the sections using various
methods.
3. To obtain friction, centroid, and moment of Inertia for various regular and irregular bodies.

Outcomes

1. Finding the forces in a various force systems, in couples and Wfinch.


2. Finding the resolution of forces in three dimensionally, by free body diagram.
3. Analyse the trusses by various methods, forces due to the friction.
4. Student should able to find the centriod and moment of inertia for various sections.

ENGINEERING GRAPHICS –I
OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

Objectives:

1. To understand the basics of computer aided ways of representing various sections in drawing.
2. To know the solid body or object from various views or angles etc.
3. To determine the objects while drawing a shape of object and confirm after drawing .
4. To evaluate the language of the drawing for geometric construction and to understand the
engineering perspective of drawings.

Outcomes:

1. Student can able to understand basic knowledge of computer aided drawings.


2. Student will be able to draw the lines, planes and solids in various angles by CADD
3. Student should able to do the drawings in various scales.
4. They should have the basic knowledge of gometrical constructions, about various
curves etc.
