Parts of the Speech: Noun, adjective and Verb

Noun:
A Word used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things.
Examples: he, John, motheer, them,dog, restaurant, beach, there, here, ball, door, it,
lamp, etc.

Adjective: a Word or phrase naming an attribute, related to a noun to modify or


describe it.
Example: ugly, big, small, tal, red, blue, soft, hard, dry, dusty, noisy, quiet, etc.

Verb: a Word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming te main
part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear, becime and happen.
Example:
Run, ran, sleeping, eat, hug, Kiss, fall, touch, etc.
Verb tenses: Simple present, present progressive, simple past, future

Uses: the simple present tense in english is used to describe an action that is regular,
true or normal.

Auxiliars: I am, am, you are, are not, are you, he is, is not, is he, they are, are not, are
they, i do, does, does not do, do not do etc.

3rd persons singular rules:


in the third person we add ‘S’ in the third person. The spelling foor the verb in the third
person differs depending on the ending of the verb:

For verbs that end in O, CH, SH, SS, X or Z we add ES in the third person.

For verbs that end in a cosonant + Y we remove the Y and add IES.

For verbs that end in Y, we just add S.

Examples:
I take the train to the ofice.
John sleeps eight hours every night during the week.

They speak english at work.
Present progressive
Uses: Indicates continuing action, something going on now. The present progressive
can suggest that an action is going to happen in the future, epecially with verbs that
convey the ide of a plan or a movement from one place or conditionto another.

Auxiliars: I am, we are, you are, they are, he, she, it, i am being, we are being etc.

Structures (Aff /Neg/ Int):

Singular aff Plural aff


I am walking we are walking.

He/she/it is walking They are wallking

Is he walking home? Are they walking home?

Examples:
We are having lunch right now.
Are you having lunch right now ?
They are singing very nicely.
The kids are sleeping.
Why are the kids sleeping?
We are moving to Packard Street this week.
He is studying to become a dentist.
Simple Past

Uses: The simple past tense is used to talk about a completed action in a time before
now. The simple past is the basic form of past tense Engish. The time of the action can
be in the recent pasto r the distant past and action duration is not important.

Auxiliar: I sometimes, I often, I always, last week, when I was, we saw, I arrived, I
went, the other day, she etc.

Examples:
John Cabot sailed to America in 1498.

He lived in Finji in 1976.
Verb tenses: Simple present, present progressive, simple past, future

Be going to
Uses: We use be going to to talk about future plans and intentions. Usually the
decisión about the future plans has already been made also to make predictions or to
make a command.

Structures (Aff /Neg/ Int):

He is not going to take the exam.

Examples:
She is going to be a profesional dancer when she grows up.

Will
Uses: Will often is used in a similiar way to be going too. Will is used when we are
talking about something with absolute certainty. Be going to is used when we want to
emphasise our decisión or the evidence in the present.

Subject + auxiliary will + Main verb

Examples: we are now very late so we are going to take ‘B’ road.
I know the ‘B’ road wil be quicker at this time of the day.
