Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) Man covers the area of the signal city an it

is obvious larger than LANs. The range of MANs does not exceed 100 kms. MANs
comprise a combination of hardware and transmission media.MANs are characterized by
comparatively slower data communication rates than LANS because of used of variety of
tranmission media over a great distance. The important sharacterstic of MANS are their
diversit, MANs are typically uses when it is necessary to connect dissimilar system with a
single metropolis. MANs are used to connect different Lans (may be usin different
topologies and cabling system) and may be connected together using radio waves as
transmission media. The other important components of MANs are security and
standardization .

Wide Area Networks (WANs) A WANs is network of many LANs. WANs

consists of interconnected LANs that may be in different buildings, cities or even
countries around the world. Out of the three network models WANs are characterized
by the slowest data communication rates and the large distance. Moreover like MANs,
WANs can also connect different type of networks together. WANs are two types :-

Enerprise WANs - Enerprise WANs connects all the LANs situated at different
physical location but belonging to a same organization .For example WANS consisting of
LANs belonging to widespread organization like corporations, universit, government or
multinational companies comes under the category of enterprise WAN. All the LANs of
the enterprise WAN may be in different parts of the country or even world but must
belong to a single company and institution.
Global WANS :- Global WANs also spread worldwide but unlike enterprise WAN, these
WAN connects connect LANs which may not belong single organization. Internet is good
example of global WANs. Global WANs can be public or private.
COMPUTER NETWORK

A computer network is a group of computers and devices interconnected by

communications channel that facilitate the communication among the user and alloes the
user to share their resources.

Local Area Networks (LANs) In small area, where we connect computer through
transmission media it becomes Lan. Lan typically comprise only one transmission media
types coaxial cable or twisted pair cable but not both. Lan are characterized by
comparatively high speed communication, the hifh speed are possible because of distance
limitation and usage of one types of cable, which is generally 10 kms or less.
