Singing in a Minor Key

1. Before singing in a minor key it is important that you first familiarize yourself with the
syllables of solfege; namely Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do - which goes to the major scale
then familiarize yourselves with the minor scales and the solfege associated with them as
each minor scale has will be different.

For example:
Natural minor scale: Do Re Me Fa Sol Le Te Do
Harmonic minor Scale: Do Re Me Fa Sol Le Ti Do
Both minor scales will have the same notes and note names when ascending and descending.
However it will be slightly different in the melodic minor as scale degree six and seven will be
raised a half step when ascending and lowered when descending.
For example:
Melodic minor scale solfege : Do Re Me Fa Sol La Ti Do Te Le Sol Fa Me Re Do
