Background of the study: the incidence of gastrointestinal infections and breathing is one of the

cause high infant mortality in Indonesian which is caused by early complementary breast milk
feeding. According to health service profil of Central Java 2015,was known that the amount of infant
got exclusive breast milk as much 44,77 in Batang region, whiile the data in the working area
puskesmas Batang IV breast milk converage as much 36,20 on year 2015 the number was still far
from the national target of 80%.

Research methodology: this research used analytical description methodology with cross sectional
design use sampling techniques that was proportional ramdom sampling. The population of this
research 206 respondens with the sample of 67 respondens. The data analysis used SPSS 16.0 for
windows with univariat, bivariat and multivariat test.

Research result : the riset result with chi square showed there was no relation between education
with early complementary breast milk feeding (0,514 CS 0,081), there was no relation between
occupation with early complementary breast milk feeding (0,872 CS 0,020), there was no relation
between income with early complementary feeding (0,710 CS 0,046), there was relation between
tradition with early complementary feeding (0,033 CS 0,261), there was relation between family
support with early breast milk feeding (0,001 CS 0,389).

Multivariat : the research result showed that giving early complementary breast milk feeding was
high enough to reach 68,7%. From the data analysis multivariat result that the effected variable
toward the giving too early complementary breast milk feeding (0,0001). The most dominant
variable toward giving breast’s milk complementary food is knowlege. (Coeficiene beta=0,490).

Suggestions :Puskesmas can give education, promotion and counseling about exclusive breast milk
and the impack of giving complementary breast milk to infant too early.
