CONTABLES E INCONTABLES
68
Palabras incontables:
Food: Comida
Cheese: Queso
Meat: Carne
Fish: Pescado
Drinks: Water (agua), Juice (Zumo), Milk (leche), Wine (vino)

In: On At:
Si
Importante
The Picture is on the wall (el cuadro está en la pared)
There is a magnet on the frigde (hay un imán en el frigo)

London is the capital city of the United Kingdom and England. It was founded by
the Romans and they gave it the the name of Londinium. London has a population of
almost eight million people and it is the largest financial centre in the world
alongside New York. London is bigger than many other European capital cities.
London receives millions of visitors each year. It has many tourist, cultural and
historical sites to visit, such as the Tower of London on the North bank of the
river Thames, the British Museum, St Paul´s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and
the Houses of Parliament with the Big Ben...but many tourists don´t choose any of
these monuments as the symbol of London! For them the most famous symbol of
London is the red double-decker bus.
However, the red double-decker buses are not the fastest way to move from a
place to another in London. The best way to move around is using the underground.
It is very easy to use the underground, although it is really crowded on rush-
hours. When you get in the train, you can find people reading, sitting, standing up
or even sleeping!
87
To get the best view of the city it is a good idea to go to the London Eye (a huge
wheel with glass cabins) from which you can see (if it is sunny and not very foggy)
a magnificent view of the whole city of London.

Peter and Carl live in Liverpool. They are brothers and they share a house. They
usually work in their garden on Sundays, but it is raining today and they cannot
work outside. Instead, they are watching a tennis match inside their living-room.
They are drinking beer and eating some crisps. Carl doesn’t usually cook, but he is
preparing lunch today. He doesn’t have anything better to do because it is raining.
He is roasting a chicken in the oven. On Sundays, after lunch they sometimes go to
play football with some friends but there is no match today because it is raining.
They often go for a walk in the park in the afternoon, but it is not a good idea
today, because it is raining. Peter loves cleaning his car on the driveway on
Sundays, but he is sitting on the sofa because it is raining. Carl likes reading his
Sunday newspaper outside with a cup of tea, but he isn’t reading outside today,
because it is raining. Peter and Carl don’t even like tennis. ¨Why are we watching a

VERBOS IRREGULARES
Ej:
I didn't eat
Ej: did
you eat?

READING
How do you imagine life in the year 2300? About one thing I am absolutely certain:
Technology will dominate our life. We won´t be able to do anything without the
help of computers and we will depend entirely on them. I do not know if we should
call that evolution, but that is the way it will be. Our houses will be controlled by a
computer and we won´t have to turn the lights on or off, or to open or close the
windows, we will just tell the house computer to do it. Our fridge will probably tell
us if we need to buy bread or milk and most of our food will just need a couple of
seconds in the oven to be ready to eat. We will even have some kind of robot to do
all the housework (in this case, I will admit that we should indeed call it evolution).
But how will we manage if our house system gets a virus or if the power supply is
cut off? Will we be able to open the door to get out of our house or will we have
to wait till the power is back and the system does it.

B. What is the only aspect of technological evolution that the writer likes and is
not skeptical about?

PRONOMBRES OBJETOS

CAN
Por ejemplo en el diálogo Anne dice “I can drive perfectly” “Puedo conducir
perfectamente”.
Pero si decimos “I can speak English” significa saber “Yo sé hablar inglés”.
Como es un verbo modal no lleva -s en la tercera persona: he can, she can, it can.
Tampoco utiliza do/does para negar : I can´t, you can´t, he can´t, she can´t ….
Tampoco utiliza do/does para preguntar, para ello se cambia el orden: Can I?, Can
you?, Can he?,...

“I must go to work tomorrow”.

They created the special lunchtime event at the primary school for over 190 of
the schools pupils for the special day.
24 eggs, 2.6kg flour and 7litres milk were used to make the pancakes2 for the
children with some unusual fillings3 including fresh fruit, syrup4 & honey.
Shrove Tuesday is traditionally the day preceding Ash Wednesday5, which is the
first day of Lent6.
Making and eating such food as pancakes was considered the last feast, as
consumption was restricted during the ritual fasting of Lent.
It is the first year of Pancake Day in the lunch menu at Burnside School.
Headteacher, Jane Ramsay said: “Pancake Day was a real success and was a fun
and different way to help the pupils learn about Shrove Tuesday. They enjoyed
learning how pancakes were made and experimenting with the different fillings.
The children often receive varied meals and theme days at school, but today was a
