Conquerors displayed excellent
composure when they need-
ed it most in the end game in
carving out a scary win over
the host city, 74-72, at the
Calbayog City Sports Center,
Feb. 7.
Gleen Montero of Villa-
ba NHS calmly sank four pres-
sure-packed free throws in the
dying seconds of the final canto,
with the last two giving Leyte 74-
72 cushion in the last 11 seconds.
Calbayog City had two
golden opportunities to extend
the game into overtime as mar-
quee player Rolando Silao found

shot but missed wildly and they
scrambled their final possession
in the last 2.8 seconds sending
Leyte to the Quarter-Finals.
Leyte will play against
Borongan City, which dethroned
defending champion Ormoc
City, in the Quarter-Finals.

EVRAA ‘18 awarding highlights seedlings

year’s Eastern Visayas
Regional Athletics Asso-
ciation (EVRAA) theme
“Sports, Culture, and En-
vironment”, winners re-
ceived not only medals
but also mahogany seed-
lings as token of appreci-
ation during the award-
ing ceremonies at Caco
Theater, Nejada Park,
Calbayog City, Feb. 6-8.
The said seedling,
as per instruction from the
organizer, will be brought
and to be planted by ev-
ery awardee at their school
bearing their names and the
year they received the award.
EVRAA 2018 Ex-
ecutive Committee devised
this scheme with the pur-
pose of educating and re-
minding every athlete the
importance of preserving
the environment, since
planting trees is one of
the easiest and most sus-
tainable ways to positive-
ly affect the natural world
as it improves air quali-
ty by producing oxygen.
There were almost
4000 mahogany seedlings
prepared by the Depart-
ment of Environment
and Natural Resources
(DENR) through the Cal-
bayog City government.
