administrators must install it before running the AXIAR setup.

To enable this component go to the server dashboard and select Add roles and Features
from the Manage menu

Note: Although this component is marked as deprecated, it is still

available for this platform. LBM is working on an alternative for next
generation versions of Windows that do not include this feature.

Confirm install and reboot the machine.

AXIAR INSTALLATION

REQUISITES:

AXIAR for Windows 2012/Windows 8 Enterprise Pro need the following components prior to
installation:

 .Net frameworks 3.5 or later (Use the instructions above as a guide to install the
features from the Add Roles and Features Wizard)
 Run setup as an Administrator - If the setup is not executed as Administrator, the
software will fail to run
 Remote Desktop Session Console Access: The installation software will run on an RDP
session if is accessing the console session on the server. Console access is obtained
by using the /admin option (previously /console option).
- mstsc /admin

You need to run the setup.exe from the CD/DVD or the Image downloaded from LBM’s web
site. AXIAR can be installed using the Windows 2012/Windows 8 or the Windows
2008/Windows 7 installation distribution. The screen shots are fairly similar.

AXIAR will install the pre-requisite components before the AXIAR installation. After the pre-
requisites have been installed, the following Install screen will appear:

If SUA Windows component was not enabled as previously described, setup will cancel.
You must complete installation of SUA Windows component per the instructions above prior
to installing AXIAR.

If SUA has been installed as a Windows component, installation will continue.

The first step is to install SUA utilities. Click OK to continue.

After installing SUA utilities, AXIAR will check the system for the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE). If JRE is not found, or if the installation program finds a version earlier than 1.4, then
it will install the latest version (7 or above) on your system.
Click OK to continue. After all the basic components are installed, AXIAR will install the
application programs for AXIAR Deliver, AXIAR Format and AXIAR Retrieve (if included on
CD/DVD).

The installation CD will ask for the location where AXIAR will be installed.

The default location is C:\AXIAR. You can modify the location to a different drive or
different folder name but be sure that the name of the folder DOES NOT HAVE SPACES in it.
After selecting the location, click NEXT to continue
Review the License Agreement then click YES.

Review the product information page then click NEXT

The default program group is AXIAR, you can modify it but we recommend using the
default. Click NEXT and the installation will start.

After all binaries and components have been installed, a command process will run:

When finished, the setup program will ask to reboot the server to complete the installation.
After rebooting, follow the instructions in the “AXIAR Deliver + ClusterQue Getting Started
for Windows” Guide for configuration and implementation.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

After setup, you will have an icon with the title AXIAR Console, to run it, select the option to
run as Administrator

Because of the new UAC (User Access control) feature on Windows, some applications will
need to be run as Administrators in order to configure AXIAR.
One application is the AXIARAgent.exe located under your AXIAR/uprint directory.

To enable applications to run as Administrator you can do the following.

Go to the executable and right click on it then select the PROPERTIES option.
Select the Compatibility tab

Click on ‘Change Settings for all users’ and check the option to Run this program as an
administrator
Click Apply then OK two times.

You can do the same for the following AXIAR programs:

AXIAR/uprint/AxiarInstaller.exe
AXIAR/uprint/AxiarConsole.exe
AXIAR/formfont/bin/FormatGUI.exe

Antivirus
Exclude from any Antivirus the cmd.exe, this program is used by some scripts running on
POSIX to execute Windows 32 programs.
Security Policies

We understand every client has different security policies for their domain and network,
please be sure to allow the SUA/SFU subsystem to execute properly without restrictions. We
also recommend excluding any interaction between the Subsystem and Windows shell.

Directory Permissions: Write, read, and execute permissions are recommended for the
AXIAR/CQ/DirectPrint installation directory. The installation directory is C:\AXIAR by
default. Working directories, where files will be created as document images (TIFF/PDF/etc.)
or as temporary files, require these permissions. C:\AXIAR\uprint\printfiles is used as the
default working directory used to create temporary files.

NETWORK Considerations

Our application is a print server. There is no need to install the Windows TCP/IP server
service (Also known as LPD Service), our application would replace it. If the service is
running on the Windows machine, then is should be disabled. If this service is required on
that machine, then it will service all incoming LPD request on port 515. Our application will
still service incoming print request an alternate port 31269.
The port in which our application is using for incoming and outgoing traffic needs to be
opened in the machine’s firewall.
Sending Print Requests from Remote Machines
There are several ways to send a print request from remote machines. The most common
method is via LPD/LPR remote queues. Other methods include:
Ulp/ulpr
Windows Port
Folder Watch (spool service)
Printer Emulation (listen service)

Please refer to the administrator guide for details on all possible methods for sending print
requests to our print server application.
