Background Case name

Mr X is A 14-year-old Caucasian male diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus


6 months ago , his parents state that their son has been frequenting the bathroom
more often than usual and his weight has decreased despite an increase in his
caloric intake and using of the medication .

His mom is wondering how much connected technology can improve day-to-day
management for both people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Healthcare needs Patient would like:


 A reminder services for check-ups and treatment.
 To be able to track his own blood sugar and record how his lifestyle affects it.

 Rehabilitation support, manging sugar intake , carbohydrate etc.

 Electronic communication with healthcare services – ask questions online without


waiting on the phone.

 Participate in support from other young diabetics sufferers.

 Access to his own lab result and the ability to input and share his own health data.

Healthcare issue He finds that he is not as actively involved and in control of his healthcare as he would like
to be. He is frustrated that he’s not getting enough treatment and is searching for
alternatives. Also , he finds he is not confident on his treatment and got frustrated not
getting enough support for his treatment even after paying high cost

Your suggested
eHealth strategy The eHealth domains involved in our situation and strategy are:

guide) levels: First between the Medical doctor in charge of the care of the patient (the
referring doctor) and the Medical doctor specialized in diabetes (internal doctor ),
and then between the diabetic doctor and the patient before and after the
examination for appointment (information about exams and results).

 Health in the hand of consumers: Using app that allows people with diabetes,
among other categories of users, to track and log important health data, like their
blood glucose trends or insulin use, and send it to their healthcare professional.
 Data records: The Lab Doctor Associates store in their servers all the medical
imaging and lab exams performed, and these results are remotely and securely
accessible by the referring doctor via a web-based solution from their offices.
Patients have also the possibility to store all their lab exams on the secured servers;
and ask them to send results to specific doctors.

b) Describe what kind of health data could be collected, how it could be used and to what
extent health consumers could be involved in its collection.

 track and log important health data, like their blood glucose trends or insulin use,
and send it to their healthcare professional.
 track over 250 symptoms through a range of standard health services
questionnaires, and have biometrics tools for weight, blood pressure, blood glucose
and heart rate.

c) What would be the most efficient eHealth strategy for you to use to interact with your
health consumer and/or with other health professionals?

 an app to help you, your clinicians and your carers to understand and manage your
health better.
 The app can help you improve how you manage your health.
 You can set Medication reminders and keep a health diary.

d) Provide at least one evidence based article to support the eHealth strategy you
have chosen.
