FORENSICS

OVERVIEW
You, being a Consulting Detective receive a call from Inspector Robert on Saturday Morning
at 10:00AM. Inspector Robert informs you that Mr. Javier Bardem died in a park at midnight
in a mysterious way. ​Do you feel thrilled and excited to solve a murder mystery just like
Sherlock Holmes?If yes then, be ready for an adventurous ride.TRYST IIT Delhi brings a
Forensic Case Study Competition for you. You can take Dr. Watson and Mary along with you
and register in a team of maximum of three participant to solve the crime.
Forensic science is the application of science to criminal and civil laws during criminal
investigation, as governed by the legal standards of admissible evidence and criminal
procedure. Forensic scientists collect, preserve, and analyze scientific evidence during the
course of an investigation.
You will be given a crime mystery and you are required to solve it. Entries will be judged on
the basis of correctness of their suspect and scientific methods used to reach upto the
conclusion along with observation skills.

ELIGIBILITY
● This competition is open to all.
● Prizes will be given to only those participants who have a valid college ID Card.
● You can register individually or in teams (maximum of 3 members in a team).
● Cross college teams are allowed to participate.

EVENT STRUCTURE
Round 1
● Be the Sherlock and find your Watson and Mary
● Register ​before 12th Feb, 2018 till 11:59 pm.
● Join the closed facebook group

joining the group from the first member of the team )
Round 2​:
● Pre-seen material will be provided to all the registered candidates which includes the
basic storyline of the case.
● Event happenings and clues will be provided in bits and pieces on facebook group.
You have to make the deductions after every clue released and answer the question(s)
being asked and send it on a thread (details of mailing given below).
● Participants will get an option to have a live chat on facebook with any of the
character associated with the case after the clue is released. The facebook ids of
characters will be shared on the event group itself. Maximum number of questions that
can be asked in a day will be three (only one person from a team is allowed to ask).
The answers given will be by the perspective of the characters. All characters are
humans and criminals have a tendency to lie and hide their crime. You can ask
questions anytime between ​6-8 PM​.
● In addition to the above, you are allowed to run a maximum of any two forensic tests
in total and obtain the results. You should write the email with subject as:
“FORENSIC <name of technique>” and mail it to hoopermolly44@gmail.com . The
forensic test results will be completely authentic.
● You can ask for results anytime between ​6-8 PM​. The content of the email should be
brief descriptions of the test.
● Finally, the registered teams need to submit a short investigation report of not more
than ​250 words which contains their conclusion from the clues. The conclusions
should have a scientific base.
● Send your entries to “​forensiciitd@gmail.com​” with the subject as “FORENSICS
Report” before 11:59 PM, 20th Feb’18 with following details:
1) Name(s)
2) Name of the Institution(s)
3) Email ID
4) Contact Number(s)
● Send your investigation report in a “PDF” format and attach it to the mail with
mentioned details.
● Ideas which are stolen or copied from any second party will be disqualified. Adoption
of any unfair means will also lead to disqualification.
● The final results will be announced on 22nd February 2018 through mails from
forensics​@tryst-iitd.com​ ​and will also be published on ​www.tryst-iitd.com
JUDGING CRITERIA
● Correctness of deduction of clues.
● Scientific basis in your investigation report.
● Creativity and Observation Skills.

PRIZES
● Prize worth Rs 10,000 to be given to the winners
● Certificate of Excellence to the top three position holders
● Certificates of Participation​ ​to all the final round qualifiers
