Furthering the vision of a sustainable energy future
The World Energy Council has been at the forefront of the energy debate for nearly a century, guiding thinking and driving action
around the world to achieve sustainable energy for all.

Global Events
The World Energy Council organises a series of high-level events for the global energy leaders’ community. These include the
triennial World Energy Congress, the annual World Energy Week, World Energy Leaders’ Summits and World Energy Leaders’
Dialogues. Event sessions are designed as panel discussions or roundtables, with the objective to address critical issues on the global
energy agenda in an interactive and informal setting. The events agenda builds upon insights gained from the World Energy
Council’s on-going studies, including the World Energy Scenarios and the World Energy Trilemma, and participants include Heads of
State, Ministers, global CEOs and industry experts.
Regional/National Events
Numerous regional and national events are organised by the Council’s member committees, focusing specifically on regional and

Other International Events


As one of the world’s most influential energy organisations, the World Energy Council is regularly invited to speak, and share
insights from its highly regarded studies, at key international events such as the Clean Energy Ministerial, United Nations
Conference of the Parties (COP), St. Petersburg International Economic Forum or Sustainable Energy for All forum.
Global events 2018

19 - 21 February: Johannesburg, South Africa


The Council will host a series of events during the annual Africa Energy Indaba including the
African Regional Meeting, INDABA Energy Leaders’ Dialogue and a Scenarios Workshop.
These meetings will explore the latest issues impacting the energy industry across Africa and will
convene energy professionals from Africa and from companies and institutions with an interest in
the African continent to drive and shape the African energy dialogue. Topics to be explored:
Decarbonisation, Decentralisation, Digitalisation

15 - 16 May: London, United Kingdom


The Late Spring Council Meetings of the Officers Council, Finance Committee and Standing
Committees will be held at The Gherkin Swiss Re Tower in London. Also taking place in the margins of
these meetings will be an Insights Workshop open to all Council members, Partners and special
guests. Topics to be explored: Resilience, Innovation in the Energy Sector

Global events 2018

12 - 15 June: Bariloche, Argentina


World Energy Leaders’ Summit and Latin American Regional Conference: Organised
in partnership with the Council’s Argentinian Member Committee, the objective of these
events is to engage the Council’s global energy leaders in an on-going, high-level dialogue
to address critical energy challenges.
Topics to be explored: Energy mix, Renewables , Unconventionals, Energy efficiency
This event will coincide with the 2018 G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meetings

8 - 11 October: Milan, Italy


World Energy Week: Hosted by the Council’s Italian Member Committee, this week long
programme will offer a wide range of events and networking opportunities for the global
energy community. Attendees will discuss issues relevant to the global energy transition in
public and private meetings with specific sessions dedicated to CEOs and Ministerial
Delegations. The event will also host the Council’s major governance meetings culminating in
the full Executive Assembly Plenary.
Topics to be explored: Resilience, Energy access, New technologies/Innovation
Other International Events 2018
16 - 17 April : Berlin, Germany
Tech festival and Start Up Energy Transition (SET) Awards ceremony: The Tech festival, organised
by dena, German Energy Agency, will gather corporates and investors together with the best and
brightest energy start ups and innovators from across the world as identified by the 2018 Start Up
Energy Transition Awards (in cooperation with the World Energy Council). From live pitching to corporate
workshops, accelerator showcases, investor matchmaking and culminating with the SET Award ceremony,
co-hosted by the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, the Festival will be a key moment for the global

2 - 3 May: Lisbon, Portugal


4th Sustainable Energy for All Forum (SEforAll): the landmark, annual gathering celebrating
the great work organisations and individuals are doing to bring affordable, clean energy to all
and power a revolution in energy productivity. A member of the SE4ALL’s Global Tracking
Framework study group, the Council will attend this year’s Forum, “Leaving No One Behind”, to
take place at a pivotal juncture for accelerating progress on global sustainable energy goals -
under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 - and the Paris Climate Agreement. For further

Other International Events 2018
24 - 26 May: St. Petersburg, Russia
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF): a global event devoted to economic and
business issues, SPIEF attracts more than 7,000 political and business leaders, public figures, top
scientists and media representatives to discuss key issues of importance to Russia and the world. For
the second consecutive year the Council, in partnership with Rosseti, will organise one of the most
highly anticipated energy events at the SPIEF. For further details see:

28 May - 3 June: Öresund Region (Copenhagen and Malmö), Sweden


9th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM9): These annual ministerial meetings serve as an important
platform to advance international collaboration to accelerate the adoption of clean energy policies
and practices worldwide. One of only 5 non-governmental bodies to be represented as official
observers of the Clean Energy Ministerial closed sessions, the Council will join energy ministers
from 24 participating countries and the European Commission to assess progress and guide work
under the concrete and transformative clean energy initiatives.. For further details see

Other International Events 2018

3 - 14 December: Katowice, Poland


United Nations, Conference of the Parties - COP24: The Conference of the Parties
(COP) is the critical authority of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change – UNFCCC. The Council will join diplomats, politicians, as well as representatives
from industry and civil society from across the globe at the 24th COP to be held in
Poland. Nearly 20,000 participants are expected to attend the events this year. For

Looking ahead….2019

8 - 12 September: Abu Dhabi, UAE

The World Energy Congress is the Council’s global flagship event that
enables dialogue amongst Ministers, CEOs and industry experts on critical
developments in the energy sector. As the world's premier energy gathering, the
Congress offers a unique opportunity for participants to better understand energy
issues and solutions from a global perspective.

Under the theme of “Energy for Prosperity”, the programme for the 24th World
Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi will lead delegates through the most live and
critical issues facing the energy industry.
