By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
Objective(s): i. talk about pictures with guidance;
ii. articulate the phoneme /b/ correctly; and
iii. recite a poem with guidance.

Time: 30/60 minutes

Cross Curricular Contextual Learning


Element(s):

Set Induction:
a. Show the picture of Ben and Bip. (Appendix 1)
b. Pupils talk about the picture. (Prompt pupils by asking questions)
c. Repeat for pictures 2 to 7. (Appendix 1)

Step 1:
a. Introduce the phoneme /b/ by showing the action.
 Put your hands up to demonstrate the balloon bursting.
c. Demonstrate how to sound it out:
 When you make the sound /b/, your lips go together and then
open when you say /b/.
d. Pupils do the action and say /b/, /b/, /b/.
e. Pupils say /b/ is for ‘b’. Ask pupils to observe
you. Do it a few times
to different groups.
Step 2:
a. Pre-teach vocabulary. (Appendix 3) Contextual Learning
 Show the picture of Ben and say [Ben].
 Say aloud /b/, /b/, ’Ben’.
 Pupils repeat.
b. Follow the same procedure for the other words: Step d:
Recite line by line and
Bip, ball, blow, bubbles, Blue Bird, beak
refer to the pictures.
d. Recite the poem. (Appendix 2)
e. Pupils repeat.

Step 3:
a. Distribute 3 sets of picture cards at random. (Appendix 3)
b. Explain and demonstrate how the activity is carried out.
 Say a word and pupils hold up the relevant picture card.
 Pupils with the card repeat the word.
c. Repeat the process for all the other pictures.

Step 4:
a. Organise the pupils into groups.
b. Prepare 2 sets of the numbered picture cards for each group. (Appendix 3)
c. Place all the pictures face down in the centre of each group.
d. Give each group 2 dice (numbered 1 to 4). 2 sides of each dice is blank.
e. Explain and demonstrate how the game is carried out.
 Pupils take turns to throw the 2 dice. Total up the numbers on both dice.
 Based on the number, pupil picks up a card from the sets with the same number.
 Pupil holds up and says the word.
 Pupil misses a turn if there is no number on both dice.
 The pupil with the most pictures wins.

Consolidation:
a. Recite the poem again.

Set Induction:
a. Do the action for the phoneme /b/ and get pupils to identify. Note: Pupils take turns
b. Pupils work in pairs: sound out the phoneme /b/ with the action. to do the activity.

Step 1:
a. Put up the poem chart.
b. Organise pupils into two groups.
c. Read the poem line by line. Pupils repeat.
d. Emphasize on the focus words.
e. Groups take turns to identify and say the words with the /b/ sound from the poem.

Step 2:
a. Show Picture 1 and get pupils to talk about the picture. (Appendix 1). Note: Organise the
