Florida State (58.5) at Oklahoma (-7.5), 3:30 (ABC): These teams haven't met since the 2000 Orange
Bowl when the Sooners won their last National Championship beating the Seminoles 13-2. Interestingly,
OU was off a year where they had lost five games the previous season, just like they are this season.
Oklahoma did not look impressive last week in beating Utah State, 34-27, coming nowhere close to the
massive 34.5-point number. Offensively, they rolled up 412 yards, but were just 5 of 17 on third down
conversions. The defense allowed 421 yards, almost all of them through the air, but was fortunate
enough to force four turnovers. They must be much sharper against FSU's Christian Ponder, one of the
finest signal callers in America, whose Seminoles breezed by FCS Samford last week 59-6.
Miami FL (45.5) at Ohio State (-8), 3:40 (ESPN): This is another National Title Game rematch as the
Buckeyes upset the Hurricanes in 2003 as double-digit dogs. This time its OSU coming in as a significant
favorite against a Miami team that is favored to win the ACC. Tressel is now on an 11-3 ATS run in
Columbus and is 8-1 vs. the number when coming off his last nine covers as a double digit favorite. They
shellacked Marshall in the opener last Thursday 45-7 as massive 28-point chalk. The 'Canes recorded
their first shutout win since 2006 beating FCS Florida A&M last week 45-0. This game will ultimately turn
on which team's QB - Terrelle Pryor or Jacory Harris plays better. Miami is just 1-4 SU their last five road
openers, but 26-16 SU vs. Big 10 opponents.
Penn State (44) at Alabama (-12), 7:00 (ESPN): The big news here is that Crimson Tide RB Mark Ingram
is once again not expected to play. Bama didn't skip a beat last week vs. lightly regarded San Jose State
as backup Trent Richardson ran for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Last year in the National Title game
he had 109 yards and some feel he is actually a better runner than last year's Heisman Trophy winner.
That just goes to show how much depth Nick Saban has in Tuscaloosa. For Penn State, this is the first of
three games against teams that won a BCS Bowl game the previous year (Iowa, Ohio St). No other team
in College Football history has had to endure that before. The Nittany Lions are 3-9 SU vs. Top 10
schools, but are 10-2 SU in road games vs. non-conf BCS opponents.
