El relieve de España
Relief is the shape of Earth’s Surface. In Spain we can separate the relief into four different
landforms: Plateaus, mountains, depressions and archipelagos.
- Plateaus: The Meseta Central is a great elevated plain that takes up the centre of the
Iberian Peninsula. It is divided into two parts: the Submeseta Norte and the
Submeseta Sur.
Sur.
- Depressions: They are areas of low land crossed by rivers. They are found between
the mountains that surround the meseta and the mountain ranges beyond the
Meseta.
o The Depresión del Ebro lies between the Sistema Ibérico and the Pyrenees.
o The Depresión del Guadalquivir lies between Sierra Morena and the Sistemas
- Archipielagos:
o The Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea.
o The Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean. The highest mount in Spain, the
Teide, is on the island of Tenerife.
- Mountain within the Meseta: The Sistema Central and the Montes de Toledo. The
Sistema Central is the mountain range that divides the Meseta in two parts.
- Mountains surrounding the Meseta: The Sistema Ibérico, Sierra Morena and the
- Mountains outside the meseta: The Pyrenees and the Sistemas Béticos. They are the
youngest and the highest mountains in the Iberian Peninsula.
