Introduction
The TireAlert Module helps you manage tire operating conditions,
which can lead to significant cost savings in the form of increased tire
life.
To reduce premature tire degradation produced by excessive heat,
DISPATCH can generate an exception to notify dispatchers when the
running average TMPH exceeds a configurable maximum value. You
can manage TKPH/TMPH limits on a tire-by-tire basis or for the
average of all tires on a truck.
To reduce tire damage from rock cuts, truck operators can report
spillage and dust on haul roads via their onboard mobile field
computer. These roadwork events are GPS position-stamped and
transmitted to the central DISPATCH database. If your mine uses the
Auxiliary Task Management module, cleanup tasks can go directly to
an auxiliary equipment worklist.

TireAlert Features for When a truck operator sees rock spillage on a haul road, the operator
Equipment Operators presses the Spill button on the mobile field computer to report a
spillage event. The system relays the truck position in real time to the
central server and logs the spillage event to a database.

Introduction

When a truck operator sees dust causing a potential or actual

visibility issue on a haul road, the operator presses the Dust button
to report a dust event. The system relays the truck position in real
time to the central server and logs the dust event to a database.

TireAlert Features for You can proactively monitor the TMPH of haul trucks and assign
Mine Supervisors equipment off high-TMPH haulage paths before tire temperature
becomes as issue.
When a truck operator reports a spillage or dust event, you can
respond to an exception and send auxiliary equipment to perform
clean-up activities. If your mine has the Auxiliary Equipment Task
Manager Module, the system can automatically send a task to the
closest auxiliary equipment that can perform the clean-up activities.
In MineGraphics, you can view plots showing truck positions where
operators reported spillage or dust events. Using this information, you
can look for patterns and determine whether to assign additional
roadwork.

Figure 1.2 Historical Dust Events Plot

Prerequisites The prerequisites for using the TireAlert Module are:

• Mobile field computer with TireAlert module for each
equipment unit that you want to monitor.

DISPATCH® TireAlert™ Module User’s Guide

• ModularReady interfaces configured for TireAlert events. Refer

to the ModularReady Interfaces User’s Guide.
• Auxiliary Task Management Module for automated cleanup
task assignment.

Benefits The benefits of using the TireAlert Module are:

• You can monitor truck TMPH to determine when the tires will
exceed TMPH limits and determine which assignments have
lower TMPH.
• Truck operators can report spillage and dust events with one
button press.
• You can use real-time, spillage and dust event reporting to
assign cleanup equipment. This allows you to keep areas clear
of obstacles that can damage tires and slow down your trucks.
• You can analyze historical plots of spillage and dust events and
determine corrective action for problematic areas. For example,
if there is excessive spillage on ramps, a shovel may be
overloading a truck or distributing too much rock on the rear of
the truck.

2
Managing TKPH/TMPH
Heavy load hauling results in heat build-up inside haul truck tires.
Ton kilometer per hour (TKPH) and ton mile per hour (TMPH) are
weighted running averages that approximate haul truck tire
workload. If TKPH/TMPH exceeds the tire manufacturer’s suggested
maximum value, the tire can deteriorate prematurely, shortening the
life of the tire.
Each time a truck completes a production cycle action, DISPATCH
calculates a single TMPH/TKPH value. The calculation depends on
whether the truck is stopped, traveling empty, or traveling loaded.
Stopped = TKPH/TMPH Minimum value * Time Stopped

Travel Empty = Truck Speed * (Empty Size/6 tires) * Time

Traveling

Travel Loaded = Truck Speed * (Empty Size + (Truck Size*Load

Factor)/6 tires) * Time Traveling

DISPATCH averages this new calculation with the TKPH/TMPH

value over a time window defined by TKPH/TMPH Time. This weights
the running average so that the TKPH/TMPH values for longer hauls
count more toward the overall average.
DISPATCH displays this running average TKPH/TMPH value in the
Truck TKPH/TMPH Utility and the Tire Heat Summary Report.
DISPATCH can post an exception whenever the average TKPH/
TMPH value exceeds the TKPH/TMPH maximum value.
DISPATCH uses TKPH when the measurement system is metric and
TMPH when the measurement system is U.S.
Modular can configure DISPATCH to manage TKPH/TMPH data for
each individual tire or for the average of all tires on a truck.
TMPHBYTIRE configuration variable controls how the system
manages tire data and sets the version of the Truck TMPH Utility and
the Tire Heat Summary Report accordingly.
• TMPHBYTIRE = YES: The system manages TKPH/TMPH data
by tire.

Managing TKPH/TMPH

• TMPHBYTIRE = NO: The system manages TKPH/TMPH data

for all tires averaged together.

Configuring TKPH/ 1 From the DISPATCH Master Keypad, click TMPH. Alternatively,
TMPH from the FormView window or CTRL+F, enter the form name
TMPH.

Note: If the TMPH option is not available, contact your Modular

representative.

The Truck TMPH Utility appears. Depending on your system

configuration, the utility displays averaged tire data or individual
tire data.
