1. INTRODUCTION

The method statement describes the activities and methods required to Assemble and Dis-
assemble the Gantry Cranes. This method statement applied to each Gantry Crane.

2. SCOPE OF WORKS

This procedure applies to the 3 nos. 32/5T Gantry Crane for DMRC CC05 Project at ITO,
Delhi Gate & Jama Masjid stations.

32/5T Electrically operated Gantry Crane – 3 nos. with following configurations:-


(OPTION – I) Span 22.0 mtr.
(OPTION – II) Span 24.0 mtr.
(OPTION – III) Span 22.0 mtr. with 4.0 mtr. Overhang both side
(OPTION – IV) Span 24.0 mtr. with 2.0 mtr. Overhang on Cabin side & 4.0 mtr.

10. ASSEMBLY (ERECTION) INSTRUCTIONS

The crane should be on an unoccupied floor where no industrial or construction work is to be


carried out during mounting. The size of the floor must ensure free and convenient handling of
the crane during the mounting procedure, i.e. setting the crane in mounting position on the
floor, turning the suspended crane etc.

1) Check the leveling & alignment of the Long Travel Rail installed by the client.

2) Place the End Carriage Assemblies on the Rail Track on both side of span & hold it with
packing on both side.

3) Tie the 2 no. end carriages on one side of the rail by means of supplied Sill members.

4) Repeat point no. 3 for the other side also.

5) Place both the Bridge Girders on these Sills between the Leg Joints.

6) Erect the Main legs & tie with the main leg joint members.

7) Assemble the Approach Ladder with Aux. Leg on the Ground before erection.

8) Erect the Aux. legs & tie with the aux. leg joint members.

9) Check plumb line of erected legs.

10) Lift one of the Bridge Girders to Leg Joint level and bolt the same with the leg joint member at
designated joint.

11) Similarly lift & join the other Bridge Girder with leg tie joint.

12) Tie both the erected Bridge Girders with bridge ties.

13) Assemble the Platform Brackets with Bridge Girder on the continuous Platform side.

14) Place the Platform on the Brackets as per match marked details on the Platform & secure
tightly by fastening bolts.

15) Similarly assemble the Hand Railings with the platform Brackets as per match marked details
on brackets.

16) Assemble Trailing Cable (TC) Beam Brackets with other Bridge Girder.

17) Assemble TC beam with TC beam brackets.

18) Ensure the bridge girder & accessories assembly is complete in all respect with all fasteners
duly secured.

19) Place the crab trolley under the Bridge girders as per the match marking drawing and
orientation.

20) Erect the canopies at their designated places over the Critical Electrical components for
protection against weather.

21) All fasteners are already fitted on each matching components to avoid mismatching & any loss
at site.

22) Loosen Trolley Suspension plates enough to accommodate Bridge Girder bottom flange.

23) Lift the trolley upto Bridge Girder bottom level and place the Cross Travel wheels on the
bottom flange of the bridge girder.

24) Tighten the suspension plates enough to secure the trolley suspension safely from Bridge
Girder.

25) Lift the supplied Cabin to the Bridge Girder bottom level and secure its connection with the
girder at designated spot.

26) Erect all Electrical Panels, Cross Travel Cable, Cable Reeling Drum and any other left out
accessory.

27) Make necessary electrical connections as per the Crane Wiring Diagram.

28) Erect the Hoisting Wire rope & Hook Block assembly of the crane.

29) Now the crane is ready for operation.

NOTE:-
Since the Crane being supplied is with options of Adjustable Spans and Overhangs, hence the
Bridge Girder Joint assemblies shall be done according to the site span requirement at ground
level only i.e. before erection of the Bridge Girders.

11. DIS-ASSEMBLING INSTRUCTIONS

For Dis-assembling of the Crane, reverse the erection sequence explained above.

12. RESPONSIBILITY & AUTHORITY

• Site Incharge shall be responsible for the overall works related to the Erection,
Commission, Dismantle, Shifting, Re-erection, Re-commission & Dismantling of the 3
no. Gantry Cranes.
• Mechanical Erection Incharge shall be responsible for the mechanical works involved
in the above activities.
• Electrical Commissioning Incharge shall be responsible for the electrical works,
operation and handing over of the supplied Cranes.
• Technical Manager of M/s L&T – SUCG JV for above project shall be responsible for
confirming implementation of procedure and overall co-ordination with our team.

13. SAFETY RULES

1. When lifting the crane structures, the dangerous zone of assembly must be protected
with flags, barriers etc. Whereas in case of special danger, sentinels should be posted.
Un-authorized persons should not be admitted to the erection area.
2. Do not lift the crane if the erection area is badly illuminated. Carryout the erection
activities preferably during the day time.

3. The lifted structure are allowed to be held suspended only by way of exception, for
which purpose the following precautions should be taken :
∗ A safety factor of the hoisting ropes should be increased by 20%.
∗ The strength of lifting masts, cross girders etc., should be increased by 20%.

∗ Ensure the stability of the mobile crane on the ground.
∗ After lifting has been stopped, the last line of rope running off the block should
be clamped near this block.
∗ Post workers to ensure security.
4. It is strictly forbidden to stand or walk under the raised components / assembly when it
is being lifted.
5. The scaffolds must comply with the safety rules. The scaffolds should not be used as
supports for jacks, tackle, crowbars etc. if it is necessary to use them as such
supports, they should be specially checked for a corresponding force.
6. When hoisting a crane it is strictly forbidden:
∗ To stand on the lifted structure or travel along with it.
∗ To climb down with the aid of ropes or pulley blocks.
∗ To eliminate any defects on the suspended bridge or lifting tackle unless it is
absolutely necessary.
∗ To keep the bridge suspended for a long period.
7. Care should be taken to see that any possibility is excluded for the workers to contact
the alive wiring within the mounting zone.
8. Prior to starting the hoisting operations, the supervisor must give instruction to the
fitting personnel on their duties and the method and sequence of lifting the bridge.
