2010

1. Bambusa oldhamii-known as giant timber bamboo or Oldham's bamboo, is a
large species of bamboo originating from Taiwan. It is the most common and
widely grown in the United States and has been introduced into cultivation
around the world. It is densely foliated; growing up to 65 feet tall in good
conditions and can have a diameter of up to 10 cm (4 inches).
2. Brachystachyum densiflorum-short-spiked bamboo, short-tassled bamboo,
short spikelet bamboo is a species of bamboos, of the monotypic genus
Brachystachyum. The genus name was formed from Greek and means precisely
"short-spiked".
3. Borinda-is a genus of clumping bamboos erected in 1994 by Stapleton and
previously included in the genera Fargesia and Yushania. [1] They have been
recognized to present different flowers and shorter rhizomes than Yushanias.
4. Cephalostachyum-is a genus of small to
medium-sized bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of the family Poaceae). It comprises
about 8 genera, found from the northeastern Himalaya to Thailand and Mindoro.
Its habitats are mountain to lowland forests.
5. Chimonocalamus -i s a genus of bamboo. Some of the species are aromatic
and grown as ornamental plants.
6. Chusquea -is a genus of bamboo with about 150 species. Most of them are
mountain clumping bamboos native from southern Mexico to
southern Chile and Argentina. They are sometimes referred to as South
American mountain bamboos. Unlike most other bamboos, the stems of these
species are solid, not hollow. Some animals are, to various extents, associated
with stands of Chusquea, for example the Inca Wren and the Plushcap.
7. Davidsea attenuata-is a species of bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of
the family Poaceae) and the only species of the genus Davidsea. The species is
used for the weaving of crude baskets
8. Dendrocalamus-is a tropical genus of giant clumping bamboo, which is similar
to the genus Bambusa. With about 29 species, this genus is found from
the Indian subcontinent throughout Southeast Asia. Dendrocalamus giganteus is
one of the tallest of bamboos, capable of reaching heights up to 30 m.
9. Dinochloa- is a genus of about 20 species of tropical clumping
high-climbing bamboo. These species bear zigzag culms and fleshy fruits. They
are found in the hill forests and lowland dipterocarp forest of Malesia.
10. Elytrostachys -is a genus of bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of
the family Poaceae), comprising species’ found in
the rainforests from Honduras to Venezuela.
11. Fargesia-is a genus of medium to small mountain clumping bamboos, found
in alpine conifer forests of East Asia. They are known in Chinese as jian zhu,
meaning "arrow bamboo". They can be found in China south to Vietnam and
west to the eastern slopes of the Himalayas. There are currently about 90
recognized species, but morphological and genetic analysis has led too many
being transferred to the genera Thamnocalamus, Yushania and Borinda, while
others are still incertae sedis .The scientific name was given in honour of the
French missionary and amateur botanist Père Paul Guillaume Farges.
12. Gelidocalamus-is a genus of small to medium-sized bamboos, found
geographically in the mountains of eastern China. This genus is sometimes
included in Indocalamus.
13. Greslania-is a genus of shrubby bamboo. It comprises
4 species endemic to New Caledonia.
14. Guadua-is a Neotropics genus of thorny clumping bamboo, ranging from
moderate to very large species. Physically, Gaudier angustifolia is noted for
being the largest Neotropics bamboo. The genus is similar to Bambusa and is
sometimes included in Bambusa. Several animals are, to various extend, and
associated with stands of Guadua bamboo, for example several species
of seedeaters, and the Amazon and Atlantic Bamboo Rats.
15. Himalayacalamus-is a newly-erected genus of mountain clumping bamboos.
They are found growing at lower altitudes of the Himalaya. The genus is often
confused with Drepanostachyum. To the difference of Drepanostachyum, which
have many equal branches, Himalayacalamus species have one dominant
branch.
16. Hitchcockella baronii- is a species of bamboo, of
the monotypic genus Hitchcockella. It is found in Madagascar and was first
described by Aimée Antoinette Camus in 1925
17. Holttumochloa-is a genus of bamboo. It has 3 species; all found in the hill
forests of Peninsular. It is sometimes included in the genus Bambusa.
18. Indosasa-is a genus of bamboo, comprising 12 species. They are found
in Asia, especially in China and Vietnam.
19. Iron bamboo -The iron bamboo (Ferrocalamus strictus) is a species of
mountain bamboo. The genus Ferrocalamus is monotypic. Endemic to China, the
plant is known uniquely from Yunnan's southern areas, from 900 to 1,200 m
above the sea level.
20. Kinabaluchloa-is a genus of bamboo. It comprises 2 species, found in
the forests of Malaysia.
21. Melocalamus -is a genus of bamboo, found in lowland areas
from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, and Thailand to Southern China.
22. Melocanna-is a genus of tropical clumping bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of
the family Poaceae). It comprises 3 species, found in East Asia. The genus is
similar to Bambusa. The 48-year cycle of M. baccifera in northeastern India is
responsible for the mautam phenomenon of bamboo flowering, followed by a
plague of rats and famine.
23. Merostachys-is a genus of bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of the family Poaceae).
It comprises about 40 species, found in South America and Central America.
24. Myriocladus-is a genus of bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of the family Poaceae).
It comprises about 20 species, found in
the sandstone tablelands of Venezuela and Surinam.
25. Nastus-is a genus of slender, erect, scrambling or climbing bamboo. It has
7 species, mainly found in the tropical mountain forests of the Southern
Hemisphere from Madagascar and Reunion to the Solomon Islands.

somewhat scandent. They are found in Southeast Asia.
27. Neurolepis-is a genus of bamboo. It has several species, found in South
America (from Venezuela to Peru). It is one of two genera in the
subscribe Chusqueinae, the other being Chusquea; unlike that genus the stems
of Neurolepis are hollow, like other bamboos. Many of the species are running,
rather than clumping, bamboos, and are found cascading down hillsides.
28. Ochlandra-is a genus of bamboo (tribe Bambuseae of the family Poaceae).
The genus comprises nine species, of which eight are endemic to the Western
Ghats (India).
29. Oligostachyum-is a genus of bamboo originating from coastal China. The

large number of species found in Central China, but can now be found in
many temperate and semi-tropical areas around the world as cultivated plants or
escapes from cultivation. Most of the species spread aggressively by
underground rhizomes and some are considered invasive species in areas
outside their native range, particularly in North America.
