CLASSROOM OBSERVATION (OBS):

In each observation, all components for which there is observed evidence must be rated. Each form must
contain lesson-specific evidence for each of the components observed during a classroom observation.

This observation was: (check one)

Formal Observation (full period) Informal Observation (15 minute minimum)

Date of Observation: 10/02/2017 Time/Period: 12:55 PM

Component Ratings

1a (obs): Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy 3- Effective

Ms. Fredricks displays solid knowledge of the important concepts in adding,
subtracting, and multiplying integers.

1e (obs): Designing coherent instruction 4- Highly Effective

The sequence of learning activities follows a coherent sequence, and is designed
to engage students in high-level cognitive activity. During my observation the
lesson opened up with a warm up activity of solving the following expression: -3 +
2(-5)/(-5)+ 4
After the warm up students engaged in a rotation station activity. Each station had
a focus area consisting of multiplying and dividing of integers, division and
multiplication based integer word problems, and the integer war review of adding
and subtracting integers.

2a: Creating an environment of respect and rapport 4- Highly Effective

Classroom interactions between the teacher and students and among students are
highly respectful,

2d: Managing student behavior 4- Highly Effective

Student behavior is entirely appropriate.

3b: Using questioning and discussion techniques 3- Effective

Ms. Fredricks poses questions designed to promote student thinking and
understanding.

1. What happens when she is buying a sweater to her money?

Last Revised: 10/13/17 10:04:02 AM By dmarsh5

2. How will I model this?

3. Could you have used a numberline?

3c: Engaging students in learning 4- Highly Effective

Ms. Fredricks provides suitable scaffolding and challenges students to explain
their thinking. The student activity consisted of four rotating stations for students to
work on. Each station had a focus area consisting of multiplying and dividing of
integers, division and multiplication based integer word problems, and the integer
war review of adding and subtracting integers.

3d: Using assessment in instruction 3- Effective

Questions and assessments are regularly used to diagnose evidence of learning.
Ms. Fredricks circulated the classroom asking her students to explain the process
of their strategies.

4e (obs): Growing and developing professionally 3- Effective

Ms. Fredricks engages with colleagues and supervisors in professional
conversation about practice, including planning for uniform task assignments for
the students.

ASSESSMENT OF PREPARATION AND PROFESSIONALISM (P&P):

In this section of the form, evaluators should rate evidence for components 1a, 1e, and 4e that was
observed within fifteen (15) school days prior to the classroom observation as part of an assessment
of a teacher’s preparation and professionalism. Each form must contain teacher-specific evidence
for each of the components observed.

Component Ratings

1a (p&p): Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy N/A

1e (p&p): Designing coherent instruction N/A

4e (p&p): Growing and developing professionally N/A

Additional Evaluator Notes (please attach more pages, as necessary):

On 10/13/17 feedback was provided on the informal performed on 10/2/17

LEQ: What strategies/models can we use to help us multiply and divide integers in real world situations?

Warm up -3 + 2(-5)/(-5)+4

Ms. Fredricks as I walked into your classroom you were reviewing the class warm up of order of operations
with positive and negative numbers. After the warm up you gave directions for the four station activities.
Each station had a 10-12 mintue timer for students to complete the assigned task.

Commendations: Ms. Fredricks your station activities actively engaged the students in the activities. Each
station connected with the LEQ which states, "strategies/models can we use to help us multiply and divide
integers. The students transitioned from station to station very well. One of your stations provided
opportunities to make math fun while learning.

Recommendations: Ms. Fredricks as you circulate around the classroom and log students misconceptions
you should stop the rotation of the stations to address some of the misconceptions that you observed. When
students are sharing their answer to the warm up, have that student come to the board to display their work.
