Dear Mr. Lamothe, This is in response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request where you sought to obtain any information regarding the false missile alert transmitted Saturday, January 13, 2018 by the Hawaii Emergency Agency, We located 21 documents responsive to your request and are releasing 17 of them to you, but with minor redactions based on pre-decisional information 5 U.S.C. § (B)(5), and personal privacy 5 U.S.C. § (B)(6). We're denying the release of four documents because they are currently and properly classified in accordance with Executive Order 13526, Section 1.4 as they pertain to: (c) intelligence activities (including covert action), intelligence sources or methods, or cryptology; and (g) vulnerabilities or capabilities of systems, installations, infrastructures, projects, plans, or protection services relating to the national security. Consequently, we're withholding them in their entirety pursuant to Title 5 U.S.C. § (B)(1), in the interest of national security. The Initial Denial Authority for this command is Chief of Staff, Major General Kevin B. Schneider. We assessed no fees to your request.
