Good day! I am Graciele Joie P. Reganit, a third year student taking B.S.

Elementary
Education major in Early Childhood Education at De La Salle University. Ever since my
elementary days, I knew I’ve always wanted to work with children. My mother and my
grandmother, who are both teachers, also served as an inspiration for me to pursue education
as a profession. Through the years of observing, producing teacher made materials and lesson
plans, and learning about early childhood concepts and theories, my desire to become an
educator thrived. I’ve never been more sure of anything than where I am and what I am doing
right now.
Looking back, I hear the people who used to question why I wanted to become an early
childhood educator. They said I’d be throwing away my superb skills in mathematics and
english. I listened to my inner voice, and I didn’t allow the noise of the world cloud my
judgement. Even if other people don’t see the value of early childhood education, my eyes are
wide open to the crucial role it plays in the life of people. A person’s early childhood years are
where foundations are set. What happens to them in childhood will greatly affect them in later
life. I want to be a part of and contribute to the early years of a person’s life, their most crucial
stage. I am a firm believer that children are smarter than we give them credit for. Most people
don’t really realize that children are humans too. They have needs and feelings. As a future
teacher, I want to raise awareness to the needs of children which goes beyond their
physiological needs. Being in the field of early childhood, I learned that it is also the stage
where children show red flags regarding possible disabilities. Detecting a disability and doing an
intervention in the early years is needed to hinder the disability from worsening.
My goal is to help children, most especially the ones who are in poverty for they are the
ones who are at risk. I know the importance of choosing only one specialization and thriving in
that respective field, but I cannot bring myself to choose between pursuing my masters in
special education or in early childhood education. Apparently, masters for special education in
the Philippines is eclectic. Alas, when I looked up the education in America, I saw that there is a
special education early childhood program. At that moment, I knew I had to go there and bring
back something here. Seeing how rudimentary the education in the Philippines is, I realized that
the country needs more help in enhancing the education system. I want to help in any way I can
for the betterment of the country. I will because I can and I must.
