PART A

A three storeyed symmetrical RC (SMRF) school building situated in zone – V with the
following data: Plan dimensions = 7 m, storey height = 3.5 m, total weight of beam in a
storey = 130 kN, total weight of slab in a storey = 250 kN, total weight of column in a

storey = 50 kN, total weight of walls in a storey = 530 kN. Live load = 130 kN and total
weight of roof floor = 655 kN. The structure is resting on hard rock. Determine the total
base shear and lateral loads at each floor levels for 5% of damping using equivalent
static lateral force method. Consider infill panelled frame .
OR
A four storied RCC special moment resisting frame residential building has three
equal spans of 4m c/c in boh x &y directions as shown in Fig. Height of each storie
is 3.2m. L.L= 2.89kN/m2 . The column are of size 0.4m*05m and beams are
0.25m*0.4m the slab are 0.15m thick. Consider 150mm thick brick masonary walls
along only Pheriphery of the building. The soil encountered is hard soil. Location is
zone III the importance factor=1.0. Neglect influence of Stiffness of masonary infill in
Computation of natural period. Evaluate the Base shear & lateral forces at each floor

PART B

For the 3-storey RCC (special moment resisting frame with importance factor = 1)
building frame founded on soft soil and situated in zone – V. Determine the seismic

forces by dynamic analysis procedure for the following data: Mass(roof )= 392kN,
Mass(2 floor)=784kN, Mass(1st floor)=1568kN
The mode shapes and natural periods are
Natural Period Mode-1 Mode-2 Mode-3

Second Floor 0.791 0.030 -0.791
First Floor 0.250 -1.000 0.250
OR
For a four storeyed RCC office building located in zone V and resting on hard
rock. Compute the seismic forces as per IS-1893-2002 equivalent static procedure.
Height of first is 4.2 m and the remaining three stories are of height 3.2 m each.
Plan dimensions (length and width) of the structure are 15 m x 20 m. The RCC
4 frames are infilled with brick masonry. Dead load on floor 12 kN/m2 on floors and 12.5
10 kN/m on roof. Live = 4 kN/m2 on floors and 1.5kN/m2 on roof. Also compute
the base shear, neglecting the stiffness of infill walls. Compare the base shears for
the two cases(considering and neglecting stiffness of infill walls) and comment on
the result.
