Exam Requirements

All students majoring in Nevada Education and Early Childhood Education must pass the Praxis

Core Academic Skills for Educators Exam prior to them being accepted into any Bachelor

programs at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Nevada State College or University of Nevada

Reno. A passing score for the Reading portion of the exam is 156. A passing score for the

writing portion of the exam is 162, and the passing score for mathematics is 150. The tests can be

taken individually at different times, or all at once for a small discount in pricing.

Exam Preparation

I have not taken the Praxis Core exam yet. I took the Praxis Core practice tests and did

not do well. I read the examples for reading and watched some of the tutorials prior to taking the

pretests. I felt I had a good understanding of the questions and the material. I reviewed for

approximately three or four hours prior to the exams.

Exam Results

I have to admit, I was very surprised and embarrassed by my scores on the practices tests

I took for the Praxis core exam. I scored a 74% on the Math section, which means I am in the

Borderline to pass range. I scored a 74% again on the Writing section, that means I am in the

Borderline range to pass. I scored a 53% on the Reading portion of the exam, surprisingly, I

thought I did very good in, which means I will not pass the Reading portion and need significant

improvement.

Future Exam Preparation

After seeing my results from the practice tests, I ordered a book online to help with the

exams. It's a Praxis Core Preparation book with the best way to study and some practice tests and

examples. It also gives a strategy and what to look for in the actual exam. I am not a good test

taker and get severe anxiety before taking any test. I studied for three weeks prior to taking my

Real Estate Exam and passed with flying colors. I am going to do the same thing for the Praxis. I

am supposed to graduate at the end of this semester, so I am feeling extra stress since I did not do

so well on the practice tests. I will study and focus and hopefully do better.
