Smoke Master SMIA INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
Contents
Safety aspects
• The control unit, the control panel and the fan unit use a dangerously high voltage of 230V. The system
should be made dead before any electrical or maintenance work.
• Electrical installations should only be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician.
• Before any maintenance work is carried out on the fan unit, the safety switches for the fan and for the
hatch opening motors should be turned to position 0.
• If the fan unit is installed in a place where it may cause danger, access to the unit should be prevented.
• The installer and the operator are jointly responsible for ensuring that the installation complies with local
rules and regulations.

Electrical installations
The smoke detectors (FDRC-1-SMIA) allow direct connection to the SMIA system. There should be stairwell
smoke detectors ceiling mounted at each landing. The detectors should be connected in series, with the last
one connected to a terminator (see wiring diagrams).
The smoke detectors are optical and rated at 24V.
When a smoke detector detects smoke, the red LED on the detector is lit, and an alarm indication is provided
to the control unit.
The alarm remains active until reset at the control unit.
Electrical installations
Pressure transmitter
The pressure transmitter should be installed in a sheltered place. The silicone hoses should not exceed 10m
in length and should be shielded or otherwise replaced with pipes.
Take the + hose to the stairwell and the – hose outdoors.
The outdoor hose can be taken through a wall using a wall sleeve designed for overpressure meters (YM-1 +
capped pipe + bend), available as an accessory.
The factory setting for the pressure range is 100 Pa. Make sure the dip switch settings are as shown in the
picture.
The display of the pressure transmitter must be accessible to those conducting annual inspections.
The display should be reset once a year. Disconnect the hoses and open the cover. Press and hold the “Zero”
button for five seconds.
The factory setting for the response time is 2s to ease off pressure control. The setting can be checked by plac-
ing dip switch PJ3 to the F position.
Electrical installations
Control unit
The control unit should be placed in a sheltered place (e.g. a mechanical room). It should be easily accessible,
as it is where, for example, smoke detectors are reset.
Control panel
The control panel should be placed in the stairwell near the entrance door where the rescue authorities can eas-
ily find it.
MAN
For testing, the cover must be opened to gain access to the switches. In the event of a fire, fire fighters break
the glass and select either pressurisation or smoke exhaust. The latter is an overriding function: when the
SMOKE EXHAUST switch is turned to position 1, pressurisation stops, and smoke exhaust starts.
Normally, the PRESSURISATION switch is in position AUT, the SMOKE EXHAUST switch is in position 0,
and the green STANDBY light is on.
