What is Copyright?
Copyright is defined as the legal right that is granted to artists/ creators to reserve rights of
their work and allows them to control it’s distribution. - what would happen if somebody broke
copyright. If copyright is broken in the UK, then the person who broke it could face a fine of
£50,000 or could face jail time for up to 6 months, depending on the magistrates’ court
decision, the maximum jail time that can be served for breaking copyright is a 10 year
maximum sentence. Artists who have this ‘Creative Commons’ license are protected under the
copyright infringement and allows the creators to be acknowledged for their work.

What are Stock Images / Video?


Stock images are images and videos which are professionally taken and are high-end images
which are under the right that the creator(s) have full ownership of their work and allows them
to control it’s distribution. This is usually applied more when the artists images and videos are
for commercial use, this right allows the creator to be credited (paid) for their work. If a person
pays for their license they’re allows to use the videos and images within the terms that person
accepted.

What is Royalty Free?


Royalty free is defined as a right to use a specific piece of work which is under copyright
material without needing to pay for royalties and license fees for every time that his word is
used. This license allows people to pay for the use one time only, ‘free’ does not apply that the
work is free to use but instead the person only has to pay once for use.

What is Creative Commons – attribution


The attribution license allows other creators/editors to either edit, remix or remake other
artists work, if that person credits the original text/ creation afterward.

What is Creative Commons – non commercial


This license allows other creators to remix/alter that artists work however their new work must
acknowledge the original piece of work, also this license is for personal use only and must not
lead to commercial use.

What is Creative Commons – no derivative works


This license is the most restricting out of all the other licenses, this right only allows a person to
download a piece of work and grants them to share with others as long as the artist/creator is
credited. However, the piece of work cannot be altered or changed in anyway and restricts
their work from being used commercially.
What is Creative Commons – share alike
The share alike license allows the other creators/ editors/ artists to develop or alter upon the
original work. The artist must credit the original work and they must license their newly created
work under identical terms as the original. Newly created works which are based upon another
work have to carry the same license as the original. An example of a business using this license
would be Wikipedia.
