ASSIGNMENT #4: The Lord’s Prayer

1. The Lord’s Prayer says Our Father instead of My Father because in God’s
kingdom, we experience God’s fatherhood as members of the church, the family
of Jesus the Son. It is to remind us that we are all recognized as children of God
and that we should treat each other accordingly.

It is give us and not give me because we recognize the all the things that we
need come from God and that we continue to ask God to give us not only the
food we need for nourishment but also the Bread of Life, the Eucharist.

It is forgive us and not directly forgive me because God teaches us that in order
for Him to forgive our wrongdoings, we must first forgive those who have hurt us.
He is teaching us that when we continue to let the bitterness and anger stay in
our hearts, there will be no room for His love to fill our hearts.

It is lead us not instead of lead me because when were in the face of

temptation, it is sometimes difficult to resist. We need our Father to set up the
road blocks and lead us far from the path of temptation.
It is deliver us from instead of deliver me because the devil is always trying to
tempt us and make it his full-time job to steer us from the right path onto the
wrong one. The devil has no power over God and when we pray to God for
protection against all evil, He will shield us always.

2. The principle behind the words Give us this day our daily bread teaches us to
come to God in a spirit of humble dependence, asking Him to provide what we
need and to sustain us from day to day. We are not given license to ask for great
riches, but we are encouraged to make our needs known to Him, trusting that He
will provide.

If we find that God’s hand seems to be invisible to us and that we cannot discern
His providential intrusion into our lives, that may be due partly to the way we
pray. We have a tendency to pray in general. When we pray in general, the only
way we will see the hand of God’s providence is in general. As we enter into
prayer, this conversation and communion with God, and put our petitions before
Him, pouring out our souls and our needs specifically, we see specific answers to
our prayers. Our Father has invited us to go to Him and ask Him for our daily
bread. He will not fail to provide it.

3. Holiness is based on God’s own holiness. We are holy people and are to
maintain holiness in the body of Christ. We are part of a holy nation (1 Peter 2:9)

and a holy temple of God is holy, and that is what you are (1 Corinthians 3:17).
For me, holiness is a character of society because we are all made in the image
and likeness of God.

4. Personality traits are distinguishing qualities or characteristics that are the

embodiment of an individual’s. They are your habitual patterns of behavior,
temperament and emotion. On the other hand, social ills can be a subjective
thing - meaning, everyone can have their own idea of what qualifies as a social
ill. Social ills can be defined as follows: A "social ill" is a term synonymous with
the phrase "social problem" or "social issue." A social problem exists when a
condition is undesirable to some members of a community. A social issue or
problem is an issue that has been recognized by society as a problem that is
preventing society from functioning at an optimal level. It is important to
understand that not all things that occur in society are raised to the level of social
problems. Four factors have been outlined that seem to characterize a social
issue or problem. These include:
The public must recognize the situation as a problem, the situation is against the
general values accepted by the society, a large segment of the population
recognizes the problem as a valid concern, and the problem can be rectified or
alleviated through the joint action of citizens and/or community resources.

A personal problem can also be a social problem if a number of people

experience the same personal problem when certain social conditions are
causing the people to experience the same personal problems. A social ill or
issue can be at the local, societal, or global level. A social problem exists when
people subjectively perceive and have empirical evidence to show that social
conditions combine at a local, societal, or global level to cause personal
problems.
