Lesson Overview/Rationale:
● Students will learn to trace letters to form
words such as their names
● Students will work in groups of three on
the iPad and tracing names on the
Smartboard with premade template.
● We will also trace other important words on the Smartboard such as the state and city.
Curriculum Framework/Standard:
“4. Early Learning Expectation: Engagement in Writing. Children demonstrate an increasing
ability to write words or engage in early stages of writing in English.”

Technology Uses:
● Smartboard with premade name templates for tracing
● iPad with tracing app
● Sing Zoo Phonics song for the alphabet with CD player
Materials:
● Tracing worksheet with their full name and city and state
● Zoo Phonics materials
● iPads
● Smartboard

Procedure:
1. Class will sing Zoo Phonics song and talk about the animals
2. Students will be put into groups of three with a helper
a. Student 1: will get the materials such as the iPad and worksheets
b. Student 2: will help team members
c. Student 3: will make sure everyone gets a turn
3. Groups will go through a rotation iPad use and Smartboard
4. Students will be utilizing iPad with a tracing app to trace alphabet letter
5. Groups will come up to Smartboard and trace their name on a template as well as the city
and state
Assessment:
To evaluate students on tracing, I will create a tracing worksheet with their full name, city and
state. I will then review it to see how well the student was able to trace their letters and try to
write their name without it.
