Objetivo: apresentar a definição do Simple Past Tense e do Present Perfect,


demonstrando e exemplificando a diferença entre ambos.

Hello. Now I’m going to explain for you some differences between The Simple Past
and The Present Perfect. First, I’m gonna talk about The Simple Past.

SIMPLE PAST

The simple past is used to talk about something that happened in the past. It refers
a specific event in the past.
For example:
Now, we are studying English. So, tomorrow when remembered this day. I will tell:
yesterday, we studied English.
I saw a movie with my guys last weekend.

Time expresses

Pay attention: on the regular verbs you add ED, but on the irregular verbs there
are several ending.
Live – lived
Visit – visited
Go – went
Make – made.

You can use did more base form in questions or didn’t in negative statements.
For example:
I didn’t clean my room yesterday.
Did you go out last night?
PRESENT PERFECT

You can use the present perfect for actions that happened some time in the past.
It refers an indefinite time in the past. The present perfect is formed with the
verb have more the past participle.

Have you been to a party?


Yes, I’ve been to several. Or I haven’t been to one.
I’ve never sung in a karaoke bar.

You can use just, yet and already on the statements. / for and since.

Form

Have (função de auxiliar/ é conjugado) + particípio

Use of the Present Perfect

1. Expresses the idea that something happened before now, at an unspecified time
in the past. The exact time it happened is not important.
2. Expresses the repetition of an activity before now. The exact time of each
repetition is not important.
3. When you used for or since, expresses a situation that began in the past and
continues to the present.

Yet and already / for and since

Yet and already are usually used on statements.


You must use yet in negatives statements and questions. So, already is used in
affirmative sentences.

For example:
Differences between Present Perfect and Simple Past

 The present perfect connects the past and the present.


 We use the present perfect to talk about something which started in the past and
continues up to the present.
 We also use the present perfect when the result of a past action is connected to
the present.
o The simple past tells us only about the past.
o We use the simple past to talk about something which started and finished in the
past.
o We use the simple past when the result of a past action is not connected to the
present.

Have you ever eaten Japanese food?

Yes, I have. I ate it last month.

Yes, I have. I’ve ever eaten it. Or No, I haven’t. I’ve never eaten it.

On that example… when someone ask “Have you ever eaten Japanese food?”
I answer “Yes, I have. I ate it last month.

Now I want who you do an activity. It’s very easy.

This’s first exercise. You must to complete the words with verbs on parentheses.

Now, you have to complete the conversation with the verbs on parentheses.
