For total straight length of longitudinal rebars:

12 mm (1/2”) Beam overall length + 0.30 m
16 mm (5/8”) Beam overall length + 0.35 m
20 mm (3/4”) Beam overall length + 0.45 m
25 mm (1”) Beam overall length + 0.55 m

Note: Overall length- end to end of rebar

The additional length from the formula is accounted for the bent bars of beams/ girders

The above table is also applicable for the straight length of columns where the overall
length is measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the highest beam

For total straight length of short top bars:
