PTO installation Mitsubishi 2012 Duonic 6-speed (M038S6)

VEHICLE MUST BE PROGRAMMED FOR PTO OPERATION BY MITSUBISHI BEFORE THIS PTO
WOULD BE FUNCTIONAL.

This instruction is a supplement to the IN84-03 PTO installation and owner’s manual. Read the manual
thoroughly and understand its contents.

Follow safety warnings and precautions found on page 1 of the IN84-03 manual.

BEFORE WORKING ON THE VEHICLE BE SURE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND ALLOW THE
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TO COOL. CHOCK WHEELS BEFORE GOING UNDER THE CHASSIS.

Do Not drain the oil from the forward section of this transmission, this is where the clutches are located and
is filled with Automatic Transmission fluid. Locate the PTO cover on the left side of the Mitsubishi
transmission towards the rear of the transmission. The PTO cover sticks out from the mounting pad. Drain
the oil from this section of the transmission. See images below for PTO opening location. Be prepared for
some oil to from the PTO opening when the cover is removed. Remove the PTO cover and any gasket
material.

Locate the gearless adapter kit 29TK5308. This kit includes 2) gaskets, 3) 12 pt capscrews, 3) sockethead
capscrews, and 1) adapter body. Using the two gaskets, align the adapter body so the 6 capscrews align
with transmission mounting pad and align the adapter so that the 6-bolt pad is offset towards the front of the
vehicle.

Tighten the capscrews once all have been started into the transmission. Tighten to 30-35 ft.lbs.

Install the PTO using the gaskets and stud kit that came with the TG series PTO carton.

Install the appropriate shift controls and output drive assemblies per the IN84-03.

PTO Wiring
For connection of the Muncie E-hydra shift PTO TG6S-M9018-T4*H, purchase the installation kit 48TK5325,
sold separately.
This kit contains:
1 PTO System Switch
1 18” Wire, Pink/Red w/Butt Splice
1 18” Wire, Black W/ Ring Terminal
1 Single to Dual Wire Butt Splice
1 Relay Harness for E-Hydra

Make sure chassis has been programmed for PTO operation before connecting the PTO. The Muncie TG
series PTO requires connection to the vehicle wiring for proper operation. The Muncie PTO indicator switch
tells the transmission that the PTO is engaged. At the vehicle transmission there is a wiring connector on
the transmission temporarily held in place with blue tape. Remove this tape and allow the connector to be
free. Locate the Black w/Yellow stripe wire on this connector. Cut this wire close to the connector and strip
the wire and connect to butt splice. Install the Dual-Single butt splice to the PTO indicator switch wire.
Crimp the single wire end to the wire with Packard connector which connects to the PTO cover switch.
Splice the Mitsubishi Black/Yellow wire with the Muncie Black wire from the Ehydra wiring harness to the
Dual wire side of the butt splice as shown in the diagram.

Locate Mitsubishi connector near PTO opening.

34T42623 Relay Harness from 48TK5325

(only used for the E-hydra shift option)

Using the Relay Harness provided in the 48TK5325 kit, route the RED/YELLOW wire from the relay thru the Pass-Thru
inside the cab to engine compartment. Locate the CONNECTOR “A” as shown in the diagram below and cut the
Yellow/Green wire and splice to the butt splice on harness. Feed the RED wire through the Pass Thru with the ring
terminal and fuse and connect this to the vehicle battery. Connect the BLUE wire from the relay to the butt splice on the
E-hydra harness. Ground the BLACK wire from the E-hydra harness and the relay harness to the chassis ground. At
the PTO connect the harness to the PTO shifter. Splice the indicator switch as shown on page 7.

CABLE SHIFT OPTION: The cable shift option requires the installation of the PTO system dash switch as shown
on page 4 & 5. The cable shift control needs to be anchored in the cab to keep the control rigid. This will require some
fabrication that is not included with the PTO kit. The cable control needs to be securely attached every 24-30” with a
suitable cable clamp. The control is attached to the PTO as shown in the PTO owner’s manual IN84-03 included with
the PTO. The cable control handle should be connected so that pulling the cable knob engages the PTO and pushing
disengages the PTO.

E-Hydra control PTO:

Follow the instructions in the IN84-03 for connection of the E-hydra.

Cable control PTO:

Using IN84-03, install the cable shift control.

ALL shift options:

To have PTO activation light operational, you will need to splice the PTO connection together so that the
PTO light is grounded when PTO is engaged and the Mitsubishi circuit is grounded when the PTO is
engaged. You can splice into the indicator switch wire for this activation.
Purpose: The vehicle computer will allow the transmission to activate the PTO drive gear to allow PTO
operation when system PTO switch is active and PTO indicator switch is grounded. This also activates the
throttle control option on this vehicle. The Vehicle with the Mitsubishi provided PTO activation switch,
controls the throttle advance. Refer to the vehicle operation manual for correct PTO operation. The
Mitsubishi PTO switch needs to be engaged before the Muncie PTO is activated.
Power take-off for DUONIC (mechanical automatic transmission)-equipped vehicle
The vehicle cannot be moved while the power take-off is in operation.
E-Hydra Shift PTO Operation Procedure
• With the engine running, place the shift lever to the P position (or N position).
• Set the power take-off main switch in the cab to ON.
• The DASH indicator lamp (PTO READY) lights.
• Connect the power take-off by means of the power take-off rocker switch by pushing the momentary
engage position until the indicator light is ON.
• The DASH indicator (PTO) goes on to indicate that the power take-off is operational.
• To release the power take-off, set the power takeoff main switch in the cab to OFF. The indicator lamp
(PTO) goes off and the indicator lamp (PTO READY) goes on to indicate that the power take-off is ready to
be released.
Release the power take-off by means of the Muncie rocker switch. The indicator lamp (PTO READY) goes
off to indicate that the power take-off has been released.
Cable Shift PTO Operation Procedure
• With the engine running, place the shift lever to the P position (or N position).
• Set the power take-off main switch in the cab to ON.
• The DASH indicator lamp (PTO READY) lights.
• Connect the power take-off by means of the power take-off shift cable.
Release the power take-off by means of the power take-off lever or damp lever. The indicator lamp (PTO
READY) goes off to indicate that the power take-off has been released.
Cautions
• The indicator lamp (PTO READY) may not show, depending on the sequence, operating speed or device
response speed, which is not an abnormality.
• If the shift lever is in a position other than P or N, the power take-off is not connected even if the power
take-off switch is turned ON. In the case where the shift lever is in a position other than P or N or the Master
power take-off switch is turned to ON during running, the buzzer sounds and the warning indication of (PTO)
appears on the IP gage. Turning the Master power take-off switch to OFF restores the state to normal.
• If the shift lever is placed into a position other than P or N or the Master power take-off switch is turned to
ON when the power take-off is working, the buzzer sounds and the warning indication of (PTO) appears on
the IP gage.
