Have you ever heard of anything that sounds as heavenly as
a Torched marshmallow cookie sandwich? It’s basically your
campfire s’more dreams on gooey, chocolate-y steroids. The
not-so-secret recipe was 10 years in the making, says Isabel
Lagunzad, owner and creator of St. Hale Cookies.
Even though the ingredients might seem apparent
(they’re literally sticking out from the dish), St. Hale’s
ingredients are actually sourced from different communities
in the Philippines. “The brown and blue eggs that we use
are antibiotic-free, which are supplied by the team of Dr.
Erwin Cruz, a veterinarian and duck farmer who strongly
promotes sustainable livelihood for local farmers and
communities. We also use sea salt from Pangasinan and
Malagos 65 percent Dark Chocolate to show support for
our Southern friends in Davao. But at its base, the torched
cookie is just homemade torched marshmallow squished in
between two homemade cookies with chocolate chunks and
spread,” Lagunzad says.
St. Hale was never actually supposed to go into the
delivery business because Lagunzad preferred that her
clients be immersed in the cookie-making experience. She
would call these on-the-spot torching sessions “cookie gigs,”
where she would personally make the cookies in front of
an audience so that she could activate their senses for a full
cookie-eating experience.
We can vouch that the St. Hale cookie-eating experience
is one you should definitely try out. Each bite is pure
decadence. First you bite into the cookie that crumbles into
your mouth, which sprinkles sea salt onto your tongue.
This wakes up your taste buds to get the full bittersweet
taste of the dark chocolate spread. Then you get into the
real deal, which is the homemade marshmallow that’s
firm enough to not melt, instead leaving you with a nice
marshmallow pull as you bite away at the cookie sandwich.
There are huge chunks of dark chocolate to go with that
mallow bite, by the way. The end of each bite is a real
dopamine rush.
Even though Lagunzad is happy with her current recipe,
she’s still figuring out how to incorporate more flavors into
her creation. “Nilalagyan ko ng sea salt in order to achieve
an umami flavor. Right now, it’s technically not umami since
walang asim or anghang but that’s my end goal—lahat ng
flavors nasa isang cookie,” Lagunzad says. FH M

 It’s crazy how it has become a
necessity for models, artists, and
personalities to actively engage
in social media. These people
curate their Internet identities
as carefully as they would write
their resumes, and you can’t blame
them for doing so since most
major endorsers really look into
how a person is able to influence
others when they decide who to
get to represent their brand.
Whether they like it or not, this
is how media is evolving so they
either adapt or become irrelevant.
Or, if you‘re like our cover girl
Misa Campo, you can just continue
being yourself with your capacity
to genuinely attract people.
In the needlessly complicated
world of social media, Misa Campo
simplifies things by being real
(who is all she needs to be in our
opinion) despite the pressures of
the community “to be different.”
“I’m not as active on social
media as everybody else. I just
like to live in the moment. I don’t
really like to hold on to my phone
to capture every moment as they
go by.” This keeps her active
followers on Instagram (280,000
as of this writing) who seem to
always be on the edge of their
seats waiting to “like” all her
posts.
Misa’s just the type of girl who
you keep an eye on. We know we
did, because when we learned that
she was visiting the Philippines

again, we didn’t have any second
thoughts asking her if she wanted
to be on our cover again. We were
also pretty kilig when it seemed
like she was just as excited as us
to have the opportunity to have
another FHM shoot. “It’s always a
really, really great time [to shoot
for FHM Philippines]. The stylist,
the hair, the make-up–they’re
always amazing. Xander Angeles
is always awesome, so I was sure
that this shoot would be as good
as the last.”
It’s always refreshing to work
with Misa who is drop-dead
gorgeous yet is not afraid of
showing her real self to people.
You can tell that she’s still the
down-to-earth car show model and
bartender we shot in 2011, despite
having already gone beyond
that with stints in international
modelling and pageants in
Canada.
But with the steady rise in
popularity come the haters, as is
the norm for Internet fame. “I feel
like some people think that I’m a
bitch. I honestly can’t really tell,
maybe I could be?” says Misa. “I
do try my hardest to be a nice
person, to be nice to everyone. I
think I have, like, a resting bitch
face sometimes, so they’ll go, ‘she’s
not nice,’ but, what can I do? I try
to be true and just really authentic
as possible with everybody.”

Being a Fiipino-Canadian and
growing up in Canada and the
United States, Misa is proud of
her roots, but says that the mixed
heritage is not the only thing that
defines her.
“The culture in Canada is
different from the US. Also, I
was raised by my Mom and she’s
Filipino. It’s super different,
you know—you have different
values, and you learn from them.
I wouldn’t be who I am today
without the influences I got from
these different cultures. I think
I’ve lived in around three different
countries now. It’s amazing. When
you learn about other cultures you
make your own culture.”

Every trip to the Philippines
is a homecoming experience for
Misa, and one she would happily
extend if given the chance. “If
I had to stay in Asia for a long
period of time, I’d want it to be
in the Philippines. I love lumpia,
and all kinds of Filipino food.
Food always makes me happy! I
also like going home and visiting
family in Pampanga, seeing the
house my mom grew up in. And
it’s really nice that everyone in
my family and all my friends here
make an effort to try and come see
me.”
Speaking of her family, they
are among her most loyal and
ardent fans, although she finds it
weird when her parents are super
supportive of her job, even when
she has to do sexy shoots. “They’re
actually way [too] supportive
that it makes me uncomfortable
sometimes, ha ha! Like, my mom
or my dad will see my pictures
and they’ll be like, “Oh, you look
sexy!” and I’m, like, ‘uhm, please
stop looking, ha ha!’”

Being on social media makes Misa
easy to find, which means she gets
invited to gigs that take her all
over the globe, including on places
as far off as New Zealand. “When I
started modeling, I thought of it as
just a fun way for me to travel and
experience the world. And then I
ended up doing it all the time.”
With the world at her fingertips,
Misa knows better than anyone how
easy it can be to get carried away.
“Don’t get me wrong–I still
consider traveling to be the best
part of the job, but after a while, it
becomes too much, you know? The
last two years I’ve been traveling
so much; I was on a plane this year
for Halloween, which really, really
sucked. So recently I spent a lot of
time just staying home. I purposely
just went missing for a couple of
weeks, spending time with my dog,
watching Netflix, and it was really
just calming.”
We are totally down to Netflix
and chill with Misa, so we just had
to ask what made her dog so special.
“Her name is Dani, she’s five, and
I swear she acts just like a human!”
exclaims Misa. “I remember one
time, after a month of being away
from her due to a business trip, she
acted weird when I got home. Like,
at first she was really, really glad to
see me and then she’d suddenly get
mad at me for, two days.”
Downtime notwithstanding,
Misa is now based in Las Vegas,
where she models while rekindling
her talents in bartending. Between
wild nights on the job (“I have
literally seen people so drunk, they
shit themselves”) and numerous
modeling gigs that sees Misa
pushing the boundaries of her
comfort zone (“But no nudes. No full
nudes. But…you’ll never know, I
might change my mind!”), she’s been
working on a few startups of her
own. “I’m working on a swimwear
line, but I don’t know if that’s gonna
go anywhere. I think it’ll be cool
though. I’ve been working hard
since I was a kid. Hard work makes
dreams work.”
Misa hasn’t left her globetrotting
ways, though, as she remains open
to following her modeling career
wherever it goes, albeit with the
occasional break now thrown in.
“I think that if you just try your
best, live in the now and, live in this
moment, you’re always experiencing
what’s really going on. I love that.”

Marawi began
in May and
declared to
be over by
the Duterte
government
in October
last year.
Reports from various news
agencies peg the number of
people killed in the five-month
armed conflict at 974 on the
side of the terrorists and 165 on
the side of the Armed Forces.
Eighty seven civilians were also
reported killed.
The loss of property were
equally terrible. Similar news
reports say that 1.1 million
people were displaced because of
the wide-scale destruction. Many
of us who have never been to
Marawi saw, for the first time, on
TV and the Internet what the city
must have been like before war
ruined it—a small city, the only
city in Lanao Del Sur, a city by
the lake teeming with business,
with buildings and mosques that

must have looked quaint and

majestic to us not used to seeing
a true Islamic city.
The men and women of
our Armed Forces came in to

Philippines as well. The casualty
and destruction are always the
unfortunate consequences of
war, and getting the job done
meant having to deal with it.
