What FHMers
What a year that was. have been up
We say that often to tell ourselves how relieved we are to have made it through such a
trying time. But what year that has passed isn’t? Every year we take off our calendars is to this month
a year we are glad we survived. Granted, some years are more interesting than others. Or
more dangerous.
How did last year turn out? It was a dizzying mix of both. To wit, in rapid fire:
Pastor Hokage. Aftermath of Tinder culture. Stashing. Breadfacing turns to
Breadcrumbing. Ghosting. Dear David. Marlou is Dead. Xander Ford. Nyeam Gaza.
Supreme. Bitcoin. Young entrepreneurs. Viral sensations turned authors. Social media
influencers. Neon lit bars and restos. a e s t h e t i c millennials. Blurry film photos.
Escolta. Food parks. Food porn turns What’s your ulam? Lodi. Werpa. Elyu. FOMO.
Classic Pare Titos and Titas of Manila. Hugh Hefner. Chester Bennington. Jonghyun.
Mental health awareness breaches the mainstream. #MeToo. “Real” Twitter stories.
Unsurprising sexual harassment in the music scene. Despacito. Baby Shark. The Last

Indie films that aren’t boring or too deep. Birdshot. Respeto. I’m Drunk I Love you.

always gotten a bad rep
for fueling the passions of
young teenage pervs with

what if we told you that there

describing Pathra Cadness

definitely an understatement.
Her track record includes:
Leading New Zealand in

This girl’s definitely been on a

As if their previous experiences weren’t S TA R
harrowing enough, Thomas (played by Dylan
O’Brien) and friends are returning to the
POWER
deadly labyrinth in Maze Runner: The Death
Cure. The Gladers will risk their lives again
raiding the legendary Last City, an urban
jungle controlled by the organization WCKD,
to rescue peers.
Wes Ball, who also directed The Maze
Runner and The Scorch Trials, is back at
the helm of the culminating sequel, whose
screenplay was penned by T.S. Nowlin. Having
seen the first two movies and the trailers, FHM
makes a few predictions on how The Death
Cure will end.

TH O M A S L I v E S ( AT L E A ST L O S E S A N A R M )
Following O’Brien’s injury on set early last year,
production was delayed until March 2017. Does this
mean the Teen Wolf actor had been doing scenes
that are too risky? Ball is known for tweaking the
science fiction novel on screen, and fans won’t like
it if something awry happens to the protagonist, who
“kisses” off into the sunset in print.

The film series will be an actual trilogy; The Death Cure
will really be final installment, unlike those that came
before it from the young adult genre (The Hunger
Games, Divergent). As such, Ball packed it with as
much as action and drama. It’s also possible that the

the 3rd Philippine Bicycle Demo

last month.
Made possible by two
staunch bicyclists and bike-

and Edmund Ang, Bike Demo
Day is where you not only get
to ogle at bikes, you can test
ride them too, regardless of
whether they’re budget meal

monsters.
“The typical rider attendee
of Bike Demo Day can choose
to ride up to 200 bicycles
worth a total of P15 Million
at the event. The values start
at P5,000 for the lowest price
bicycle to as high as P600,000
for a super bicycle,” Andal
says. “All these bicycles can
be tested unhindered by the

rider attendee. No matter the
present financial status of the
person testing the bicycles, he
or she gets to experience the
variations of ride quality of the
bicycles onsite. It’s all about the
smiles on the faces of all the
demo riders at our event.”
Andal isn’t kidding. The 5k
rides were made by Trinx and
Sava— “but they’re ridable,”
Andal says, meaning they’re not
creaky. The 600k one was the
Colnago Concept CHDK 48s. In
between were Bianchis, KTMs,
Surlys, Bromptons, and a whole
lot of other brands on the wish
list of any serious biker.
Don’t worry, though, a
fourth Bike Demo Day is
currently being planned for
summer. Word has it that it’s
going to be held in UP Diliman.
Oh, what biking joy!
“I personally believe the
bicycle will end up rolling
back into our lives as
traffic worsens, as stress
thickens, and as the world
works on going green.
The best thing a biker can
do to promote biking is
to just ride his bicycle for
even the simplest errands
and shortest distances.
Go bike, standout, arrive
early, smile and suggest
for others to try biking!,”
Andal says. FH M

Being on social media makes Misa
easy to find, which means she gets
invited to gigs that take her all
over the globe, including on places
as far off as New Zealand. “When I
started modeling, I thought of it as
just a fun way for me to travel and
experience the world. And then I
ended up doing it all the time.”
With the world at her fingertips,
Misa knows better than anyone how
easy it can be to get carried away.
“Don’t get me wrong–I still
consider traveling to be the best
part of the job, but after a while, it
becomes too much, you know? The
last two years I’ve been traveling
so much; I was on a plane this year
for Halloween, which really, really
sucked. So recently I spent a lot of
time just staying home. I purposely
just went missing for a couple of
weeks, spending time with my dog,
watching Netflix, and it was really
just calming.”
We are totally down to Netflix
and chill with Misa, so we just had
to ask what made her dog so special.
“Her name is Dani, she’s five, and
I swear she acts just like a human!”
exclaims Misa. “I remember one
time, after a month of being away
from her due to a business trip, she
acted weird when I got home. Like,
at first she was really, really glad to
see me and then she’d suddenly get
mad at me for, two days.”
Downtime notwithstanding,
Misa is now based in Las Vegas,
where she models while rekindling
her talents in bartending. Between
wild nights on the job (“I have
literally seen people so drunk, they
shit themselves”) and numerous
modeling gigs that sees Misa
pushing the boundaries of her
comfort zone (“But no nudes. No full
nudes. But…you’ll never know, I
might change my mind!”), she’s been
working on a few startups of her
own. “I’m working on a swimwear
line, but I don’t know if that’s gonna
go anywhere. I think it’ll be cool
though. I’ve been working hard
since I was a kid. Hard work makes
dreams work.”
Misa hasn’t left her globetrotting
ways, though, as she remains open
to following her modeling career
wherever it goes, albeit with the
occasional break now thrown in.
“I think that if you just try your
best, live in the now and, live in this
moment, you’re always experiencing
what’s really going on. I love that.”

Sports, too, that’s speculative. ‘Who’s

Q: please convince me that

BITCOIN is REALLY SAFE. it
all seems so vague.
Bitcoins can never be 100 percent safe. Nothing is, anyway.
Because of its digital nature, we should keep in mind that
there will be chances of technology breaches (like what
happened to Mt. Gox). It has also already been said earlier
that cryptocurrencies are not controlled by a central monetary
authority, hence there is practically no regulatory body that
can ensure its protection. Cuneta, whose business is trading
bitcoin, had once been scammed. So he advises to only buy
bitcoin from exchanges licensed by the Central Bank. “Make
sure you don’t go to unlicensed exchanges. Very soon dadami
pa ang mga Bitcoin exchange. Maraming nag-a-apply for
license sa ngayon so as we see it, lalaki nang lalaki pa ang

Marawi began
in May and

the Duterte
government
in October
last year.
Reports from various news
agencies peg the number of
people killed in the five-month
armed conflict at 974 on the
side of the terrorists and 165 on
the side of the Armed Forces.
Eighty seven civilians were also
reported killed.
The loss of property were
equally terrible. Similar news
reports say that 1.1 million
people were displaced because of
the wide-scale destruction. Many

Marawi saw, for the first time, on
TV and the Internet what the city
must have been like before war
ruined it—a small city, the only
city in Lanao Del Sur, a city by

with buildings and mosques that

a true Islamic city.
The men and women of
our Armed Forces came in to
do one mission: to destroy the
Isis-Maute-Abu Sayyaf alliance
threatening the security of
Mindanao, and given the scale
of global terrorism, the entire
Philippines as well. The casualty
and destruction are always the
unfortunate consequences of
war, and getting the job done
meant having to deal with it.
As reconstruction of Marawi
begins, our soldiers are now
faced with a new mission:
Rebuild. Reconnect. Renew
respect. Bring back life to the
torn city. FH M

and develop your upper
body strength as well.
DO IT
Start at one end of the
court. Step sideways
with one foot then follow with the
other to close the gap. Repeat
and move as fast as you can until
you reach the half-court line, then
do one push-up. Get up and do
the same shuffling steps until you
reach the baseline and then do two
push-ups. Continue until you reach
10 push-ups. “You can up the ante
by dribbling a ball while moving
laterally,” Sanders says.

All movements are initiated through your
core muscles and this exercise will put
your core strength and stability to the
test.

DO IT Assume plank position with your

elbows shoulder-width apart on the floor.
Make sure your butt doesn’t stick out or
sag down, and hold this position for one
minute. Now, lift your left arm up for 15
seconds. Drop your left arm back to the
floor, then do the same for your right
arm. Next, lift your left leg from the floor
for 15 seconds, then switch up with your
right leg for another 15-second raise.
Afterwards, raise your right arm and left
leg off the floor for 15 seconds, and
repeat with your opposite arms and legs.
Finally, return to original plank position
and hold for another 30 seconds.

Pre-Game
It’s important to keep the machine

to perform well. So apart from exercising
like crazy and staying hydrated throughout
the game, make sure you prep yourself
before stepping on the court.

DO IT First of all, rest up. Your body needs

six to eight hours of deep, uninterrupted
sleep to recover and repair tissue. Eat a
variety of food beforehand: carbs for fuel,
and healthy proteins for muscle-building.
