Passive Voice

Passive voice or passive sentences or sentence in which the subject is subjected to a job
or suffer something, for example:
- She is called by Julia
Dia dipanggil oleh julia
- An elephant was killed by the hunter
Seekor gajah dibunuh oleh pemburu itu
In the first sentence "she" (dia perempuan) subject to the work that is "called"
(dipanggil), while in the second sentence "an elephant" (gajah) suffer from something
that is killed (dibunuh).
Active voice can be used as passive voice by taking into account the following
provisions:
1. Subjects in the active voice is converted into objects in passsive voice
2. On the other hand, the objects in the active voice made the subject of the passive
voice
3. The predicate in the passive voice consists of
To be + past participle
4. In the form of continuous passive voice (verb + ing), then the predicate form
To be + being + pastparticiple
5. In the use to be, please note the following:
a. If the active form of the simple present tense voice, then to be used are:
is, am, are, for example:
A : He hits me
Dia memukul saya
P : I am hit by him
Saya dipukul olehnya
b. If the active form of the simple past tense voice, then to be used is: was,
were, for example:
A : She called me
Dia memanggil saya
P : I was called by her
Saya dipanggil olehnya
c. If the shape of the future tense active voice, then to be used are: be, for
example:
A : They will gives us money
Mereka akan memberi kami uang
P : We will be given money by them
Kami akan diberi uamg oleh mereka
d. If the active voice past shape the future tense, it is to be yangn used are:
be, for example:
A : Our headmaster would present our invitation
Kepala sekolah kami akan menghadiri undangan kami
P : Our invitation would be presented by our teacher
Undangan kami akan dihadiri oleh kepala sekolah kami
e. If the active voice using auxiliary verbs, then to be used are: be, for
example:
A : I can paint the house
Saya bisa mengecat rumah itu
P : The house can be painted by me
Rumah itu dapat dicat olehku
f. If the active form of the present perfect tense voice, then to be used are:
been, for example:
A : they have kept my secret
Mereka telah memegang rahasiaku
P : my secret has been kept by them
Rahasiaku telah dipegang oleh mereka
g. If the active voice shaped the past perfect tense, then to be used are:
been, for example:
A : i had folded many sheets of paper
Saya telah melipat banyak kertas
P : Many sheets of paper had been folded by me
Banyak kertas telah dilipat olehnya
h. If the active form of the present continuous tense voice, then to be used
adalh: being, for example:
A : She is praying for her mother
Dia sedang mendoakan ibunya
P : Her mother is being praying by her
Ibunya sedang didoakan olehnya
i. If the active voice form past continuous tense, then to be used are: being,
for example:
A : They were painting the house
Mereka sedang mengecat rumah itu
P : The house was being painting by them
Rumah itu sedang dicat oleh mereka
6. If, in the active voice, the subject of the action is not necessarily the person (not
known for certain the person), then the object in the passive voice as: by people,
by someone, by him, by her, by them, and others can be eliminated , for
example:
A : someone stole my motorcar
Seseorang mencuri sepeda motorku
P : my motorcar was stolen
Sepeda motorku telah dicuri
7. Objects in the passive voice should still be written, if the action is certainly the
person, such as: by Jimmy, by Lena, etc. For example
A : Jimmy wrote “Never say no”
Jimmy menulis “Never say no”
P : “Never Say No” was written by Jimmy
“Never Say No” ditulis oleh Jimmy
8. If there are two objects in the active voice that is the direct object and indirect
object (direct and indirect objektive), then the passive voice in the form of two
possibilities, for example:
Example:
A : he gives me a new pen
Dia memberiku sebuah pena baru
P : I am given a new pen by him
Aku diberi sebuah pena baru olehnya
A new pen is given to me by him
Sebuah pena baru diberikan kepadaku olehnya
Some things to note are:
1. What can be the passive voice is only active voice in the form of a predicate
transitive verb (transitive verb), the verb is still required objects
2. While Active voice that predicate form of an intransitive verb (intransitive kerrja
word), which is a verb that does not need the object, it can not be a passive
sentence, for example:
- Transitif verbs : drink (minum), eat (makan), agree (menyetujui), buy
(membeli), bring (membawa), give (memberi), tell (mengatakan), do
(mengerjakan), visit (mengunjungi), discover (menemukan), write (menulis).
- Intrasitive verbs : look (tampak, melihat), seem (kelihatan), spear
(tampak,muncul), bleed (berdarah), go (pergi), arrive (tiba/datang), come
(datang), sleep (tidur).
