ABSTRACT
The hazard of continued cropping and the preservation of quality in horticultural crops is
a main problem that the world faces, due to the high demand for crops with high quality and
quantity such as vegetables, rice and much more important crops that mankind must consume in
order to survive. This study is to show the effects of Effective Microorganisms on the soil in terms
of toxicity of the soil and the quality and quantity of the crops produced. What is Effective
Microorganisms (EM)? Effective Microorganisms are a living entity containing live and active
microbes. EM is also a liquid based fertilizer. What are microbes? A microbe is any living
organism that spends its life at a size too tiny to be seen with the naked eye. It consists of active
microbes such as lactic acid, photosynthetic bacteria and yeast. EM enhances the beneficial
microbes in soil, thereby developing a conducive environment for crops. EM has also been
compared to traditional farming and conventional farming. The results are amazing and its proven
EM is better compared to traditional farming and conventional farming in terms of the toxicity of
the soil used to plant the crop, the quantity of crop and also the nutrients that has been maintained
in the crop
