QUESTION 3 - In the initial (vertical compressive ) load test conducted on a single pile of

600mm diameter the following observations were made.

i)2/3 of the final load at which total displacement value reaches 12mm.

(2/3) x 186.157 = 124.104 kN.

The safe load is 124.104 kN.

ii)½ of the final load of the total displacement equal to 10% of the dia.

(½) x 700 = 350kN.

Therefore fhe safe load is the least value of all

Checking the pile

As L > 3.5R

It is a long elastic pile

We follow C-4.1

From depth of fixity chart – free headed pile

e=1m

e/R = 1.818

z/R = 1.4

MF = H(e+z)

Actual bending moment

By reduction factor chart

For e/R = 1.818

m = 0.62

M = m x H(e+z)

120 = 0.62 x H(1+0.77)

H = 109.34 kN.

QUESTION 6- Determine the safe load carrying capacity of 60 cm diameter of driven concrete pile
shown in fig. the water table is at 3m deep.
