Greetings,

As a first year Master of Science Mechanical Engineering student at Michigan Technological

University, I am writing to express my sincere interest in pursuing an internship at Hannon Systems
in the Mechanical Engineering team. This position will provide me an ideal opportunity to experience
a real-life exposure in the field I want to pursue, and I feel that I can contribute my skills and technical
acumen to the best.

My background in design and manufacturing in T.D. Power Systems makes me confident to work
efficiently in Hanon. I was given the responsibility of modeling and analyzing shafts for a Diesel
Generator and Gas Turbine Generator prototype using SolidWorks and ANSYS Workbench
respectively. Apart from that, I learnt how to operate CNC Mills and Lathes in order to manufacture
the shafts. This exposed me to learning how CNC machines are operated and also exposed me to
computer aided design and analysis. I performed detailed analysis of the operating conditions that
the shafts are exposed to and learnt their importance in designing and analyzing the shafts.

Currently, I am working on modeling a passive thermal management system using paraffin wax with
graphite foam board for a Li – ion battery. I am currently assisting in quantifying the thermal
characteristics of the battery pack by building an equivalent circuit on MATLAB and Simulink. The 3-
D model of the battery is being created using SolidWorks, and the Finite Element Analysis of the
battery pack will be done using COMSOL. Upon completion of this project, I feel that the skills I
possess in solid modeling and thermal analysis will be honed and best suited for your expectations
pertaining to this position.

I would relish to the opportunity to take these skills I have gained in my past experiences to a forward
thinking organization such as yours. Not only am I a good fit for the role but, as a graduate student of
Michigan Technological University, I bring good values and first-hand knowledge of professional
education to the company. The values endowed in your company resonates with mine and I am
looking forward to work and learn in your company.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for your time and consideration
