Some people think international car-free days are an effective way of

reducing air pollution, others think there are some other ways. Discuss
both views and give your own opinion.

Suprisingly, World Car-Free Day as an effective method of reducing and controlling air pollution it is a topic
of controversy nowadays. There are valid opinions on both sides and I will consider now.
On the one hand, advocates of organising global car-free days argue that this is the most workable
solution to alleviate the air contamination. For one day big cities go car-free and take long walks or use
bicycles instead. People believe that this contributes considerably to the reduction of traffic emissions
just like the Earth Day does with eletric consumption. Moreover, this event which takes place all around the
globe brings awareness within communities and encourage citizens to use less their personal cars to
commute and take a train, a bus or another public transportation.
On the other hand, though, there are individuals who regard this enthusiasm for car-free days as mere
exaggeration. This is because in order to reduce annual amount of traffic fumes we have to plan and
implement long-term methods and measurements. For instance, governments should impose higher taxes
on cars and fuel in order to discourage buying vehicles. Also, another feasible idea is to allow individuals
who do not own cars at all to use public transport vehicles for free. This will make people think twice before
deciding to purchase a personal car.
To sum up, I believe that streets left vacant for only one day it is not sustainable enough to addresse
atmosheric pollution and yield genuine results. For such an alarming issue to be tackled properly we
have to take little actions every single day not only one day per year.
