Monday Feb 12 – School 1

Goals

Learners will:

- Learn to sing a melody and ostinato through pop music

- Sight sing pentatonic patterns through play with MakeyMakey

- Learn about tone and vowel shapes

- Rehearse Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing - Rehearsal 2

- P: * spread out * open wide, scrunch closed, wrist rolls, elbow, shoulder, torso twists with knee

bend

- AS: bouncing basketball - low and high, alternate, swish

- A: Falling snowflakes from the sky is fascinating fun

- Vary dynamics

- Legato vs. staccato

III. Singing with Ostinato - Something Just Like This

- Ostinato is Do So Do So Do So
- Add in beatboxing

IV. Sight Singing with MakeyMakey

- “Instead of me writing an example on the board, you all are going to create what we sight sing.

We have Do, Re, Mi, So, and La up here and I need a volunteer to come up here and compose an

example for us to sing. There is no right or wrong way, anything you create will sound good. You

can pick any combination of notes.”

long,

deep breaths on your own time

- T: Space to hold a ping pong ball keep our vowels nice and tall

Friday Feb 16 – School 1

Goals

Learners will:

 Learn the first part to a partner song

 Explore echoing and composing pentatonic melodies using MakeyMakey

 Learn about the human voice - why is sight singing important

 Rehearse Bring Me Little Water, Silvy

- P: Yoga for Singers

- Mountain - stack your body - feet hip width apart, parallel, knees above your feet, hips

above your knees, shoulders over hips, head over shoulders, arms free, chest lifted, ribs

expanded

- Staff Pose - feet parallel and flat, long spine, off the back of your chair

- Chair Pose - feet together or hip width apart, bend knees, hips back, lift arms over your

head, like you’re sitting in a chair, keep your knees square over your toes, chest lifted -

utkatsana translates to fierce or awkward so depending on your strength, you might find

yourself feeling fierce or awkward - can bring hands to hips or thighs - downward

grounding is good for singers, especially for higher notes

- Forward Fold - releases tension in lower back - good for long rehearsals - roll yourself

up

- Seated Twist - right hand to left knee, left hand to chair - slowly inhale and exhale into

the twist

- Teach poses one by one, then go through all of them with music playing, taking 3 deep

breaths for each pose

- AS: Hand out straws, practice breathing and humming - slide Do So Do

- Part Work: Hurry, Hurry, Hurry

IV. MakeyMakey
- First time give us a 3 note melody moving by step

- Second time 4 notes maybe a skip or two

- Third time 5 notes steps and skips

V. Human Voice - Sight Singing

- You have all the tools to learn it for yourself

- Literacy - takes you a long time to learn how to read - don’t need to think about each letter

anymore and you can just read - same thing - learn so much faster

- Music theory is just the fancy word for all the words and notes on the page like notes and sharps
