Professional Disposition
As a professional educator I understand the professional dispositions necessary to be effective in
the classroom. I have a strong belief in all student’s ability to learn. No matter the level, every
student is capable of achievement. I believe that diversity should be respected and celebrated
both in the classroom, and in everyday life. I prioritize my professional conduct. I recognize I
act as a role model for my students, and that my fair judgment and ethical/professional behaviors
are being observed at all times. I believe I am a lifelong learner, and that reflection and
experience are going to challenge me to continue to grow as an educator. As an educator I
model honesty, integrity is so important in my work. Fairness to all students, and transparency
no matter the situation. Compassion is a driving force with students and anyone whom I
encounter daily. I believe in depth in relationships with students in the classroom. A student
should feel valued on more than just an academic level. I will be my student’s biggest advocate,
promoting an environment of positivity and protection. I am committed to the profession of
being an educator and strive for nothing more than being the best teacher I can, so that my
students may be set up for success.
Reflection
I believe my assessment is an accurate representation of what I value as an educator, and the
teacher that I strive to be daily. I am very passionate about this profession and the long-standing
effect It has on the students who step foot in my classroom. Each and every disposition in my
statement is reflected positively in my assessment. I have not always been the educator I am
today; my values have been shaped overtime throughout my study. Before working within the
classroom, and studying around fellow educators, I had a close-minded view on a proper
education. I believed that my most effective way of learning would be everyone else’s most
effective way as well. I grew up knowing book work was a part of school and was
“unescapable”. Since going through the Elementary Education program, I have been stretched
outside of what is comfortable. I believe in being curious and changing up your teaching
techniques. I now value an individualized education plan which sets each student up for success.
I also now have the tools to implement my learned skills. The area I scored low in is the taking
responsibility on when working with people. I have a tendency to allow others to lead, and
myself to follow. However, within the classroom, I am the leader and I will have 25 followers
looking up to me. I plan on growing in this area by taking initiative when an opportunity presents
itself. I believe working on my weaknesses and embracing my strengths will allow for my
professional disposition to reflect and grow.
