● In 2014, American businesses were projected to spend
$817 billion on information systems hardware, software,
and telecommunications equipment.
● In addition, they were projected to spend another $230

billion on business and management consulting and


services—much of which involves redesigning firms’
business operations to take advantage of these new
technologies.
● Between 1999 and 2013, private business investment in

information technology consisting of hardware, software,


and communications equipment grew from 14 percent to
33 percent of all invested capital.
