Altruism

Altruism according to the Star Wars Psychology is selflessly helping other. This

applies to the Jedi and talk about it between Luke and his father Anakin. They both

share this but in different ways. Awakens desire to protect others is partially related to

his ambition. And this can be bad because his ambitions to do the impossible can get in

the way of saving people and can cause the outcome to be what was not intended to

be. Luke like his father also possesses altruism but in a different manner. Luke doesn't

seem to be driven due to his ambition. Luke is able to obtain balance between his

values and his ambitions. When he goes against the emperor he keeps mindful of his

feelings and allows him to stay true to the light side.

While in the text book it states that altruism is helping others, often with a risk to

oneself, for reasons other than the expectation of a reward. The book is saying that

when something bad happens like A woman being robbed of her purse all you would

think about is getting it back for the lady. You don't automatically think if I help her I

wonder what i will get as a reward. This is what relates to the Jedi's they strive to keep

people safe for the right reason not what they will get in return. But the book is saying

some people do it just because they know its the right thing to do. The Star wars

Psychology is saying that the Jedi feel obligated and have there own reason for doing

the good. Like for Anakin it was his passion to do what people think couldn't be done.

and Luke his passion to do good with his ambition.

Both of the books show that altruism is seeking thrill through helping others. This

is what the jedi stand for and do. There willingness to help people without seeing the

threats. They fell the need to save people outweighs the risks.

Extraversion and Introversion

Extraversion in Star Wars Psychology is being adventurous. They seek

excitement and new experiences. One example is learning the force. This relates to

Luke because of his eagerness to get to the exciting part and this figures into his

impatience. introverted people have a easier chance to become a Jedi. Because they

have better control of there emotions. Most people aren’t full extraversion or

introversion. Most of them have traits of the other but are more leaning to one side.

According to the text book extrovert people are outgoing active, someone who

directs his or her energies and interest toward other people and things. This is What

Star wars psychology was leaning to. This is what relates to Anakin he is outgoing but

was to outgoing leading him to the wrong way. a extrovert person is someone who is

outgoing, active and is able to direct his or her energies and interest toward other

people and things with the ability to keep control of the situation. This relates to like

Luke he wants to do the right thing but he knows his limits. And he does it help others.
both of the books say pretty much the same things. People who are extrovert are

outgoing and active just like the jedi. they direct there energies into helping people just

like the textbook explained.

Phobias

A phobia according to Star Wars Psychology a fear so extreme that it interferes

with the phobic individual’s ability to function. this relates to the drones because for the

most part the people don't treat the droids like people this could be cause by phobias.

and there a list of phobias that could have caused this. And this could be the reason

why some people don't like the droids. Like the well know droid R2-D2

In the text book a phobia is severe anxiety focused on a particular object, anima,

activity, or situation that seems out of proportion to the real dangers involved. There are

many phobias in the world. and most of them do little to no harm. People fear over them

to much to the point it takes over there life and they cant do things most people can do

due to there phobia. This could compare to the star wars psychology. people were

scared of the droids for good and bad reasons. Like someone being afraid of the droid

because it has to many numbers. Or a logical one being people being scared that the

droid is going to hurt them. No madder how yo look at it phobias affect millions of
people everyday its a normal occurrence you just have to figure out how your going to

deal with it.

Phobias are common things people have to deal with. they Are things people are

afraid of and in most cases don't know why. This relates to the droids. They are robots

that people fear the worst. They think that they are going to hurt them or do other

harmful things. This relates to the textbook in that people are scared of anythings for

there own reasons.

Albert Bandure

Star wars psychology talks about Albert Bandura in the way that he a famous

psychologist who studied social learning. He found that preschool boys and girls are

likely to become aggressive after seeing researchers act aggressively toward an inflated

bobo doll, rather in real life or on film. He found that boys tend to more aggressive then

the girls. He found that the got more aggressive against same sex aggressor. He came

to the conclusion that people are more strongly influenced by same sex role models.

This applies to the jedi masters they had apprentices that were the same sex.

In the text book Albert Studied aggressive behavior. He came to the conclusion

that children learned aggressive behaviors by watching a model perform the behaviors.

This learning is called social learning. Social learning is a process of altering behavior

by observing and imitating the behavior of the other. This also relates to cognitive
learning which is altering behavior that involves mental processes and may result from

observation or limitation. Albert studies and came up with the conclusion that people

may become aggressive if there same sex remodel does.

Jean Piaget

Piaget in star wars psychology is known for coming of with from infancy onward,

we form connections between ideas and experiences. Patterns emerge. A mental

structure called a schema (Also known as scheme) comes together in associated

related concepts. An example is a child’s dog a scheme involves of a kid learning about

what the dog is and isn't wand what it does. and items keep getting added to this like a

shoe that reminds him of a shoe that his dog tore up.

Antisocial personality

In psychology of batman antisocial personality focuses on more objectively

assessable actions. Like lawbreaking, deceitfulness, impulsivity, aggressiveness,

recklessness, irresponsibility. one person this describes is the joker. This describes him

in many ways Him treating people like objects. He used them and when he is done with

them he disposes of them like normal objects. Also his disregard for other peoples

things. He is reckless without even thinking of what it might do to someone. He lives to

break the laws he doesn't care what people think. He only cares of things that make him

happy.
In the textbook antisocial personality revers to people who exhibit persistent

disregard for violation of others’ rights. They treat people as though they are not people

but objects as things for gratification and be put aside when no longer wanted. They are

intolerant of everyday frustrations. When they are caught it doesn't seem to rattle them.

no matter how much trouble and as many times as they go to jail they don't seem to

know how to stay out of trouble.

Both books say almost the same thing. they both explain how people who have

antisocial personality care little to non for people other than them. The joker fits this very

well. He doesn't care for anyone except his own personal games and jokes her

performs.

Defense mechanisms

In the psychology of batman a defense mechanism is something that

automatically protects you from threats self imaging and anxiety. Using defense

mechanisms can be healthy by keeping harsh realities from overwhelming us. They

help us cope with reality, they maximizes our ability to feel good about life. This relates

to batman. When fighting villains he acts as though everyone he stops is his parents

killers. this helps him cope with his parents death because he feels he has done them

justice.
In the textbook a defense mechanism is something that convinces people into

thinking nothing is wrong instead of facing the frustration, conflict, or feeling of

worthlessness. if the demands of the ego or not met it may be necessary to distort

reality.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

One of the people in batman that have old is the Riddler. The Riddler know that

his old comes form inside and not from other people or things. At some time people with

OCD recognize that the obsession or compulsions are excessive or un reasonable.

OCD is a obsession with things that are not in order or do not make sense.

Someone who is suffering from acute anxiety may think the same thoughts over and

over. such as uncontrollable patterns of thoughts is obsession. A person also may

repeat perform coping behaviors call compulsions. Someone without of these may have

obsessive compulsive disorder.

Stress

In psychology of batman He experiences one of the most stressful things that a

kid goes through. He looses his parents. This is deprives him of love nurturance, love,

and support that might help him get through other kinds of hardships. As for adults

loosing a spouse is at the top of the list. You loose your sole mate as well as the person

that help you make ends meet which could also add stress to the equation.
Stress in the textbook is a person’s physical and mental perception of his or her

inability to cope with a certain tense event or situation. There are many things that deal

with stress. Like a stressor, stress, reaction and distress to name a couple. like the

batman man things contribute to stress. and for there own reasons.

Ivan Pavlov

Known in psychology of batman for classical conditioning. Also he is known for the dog

experiment where he conditioned the dog to salivate who he heard the bell. In the

textbook Pavlov is known manly for the same thing. His discovery of classical

conditioning. But also he was one of the founding fathers for psychology today.

Sigmund freud

Sigmund passed away a month before batman first aired. He is the founder of

psychoanalysis. Even though he never saw the the movie he did write about related

topics. To infer what he would say he would be intrigued about how batman came

about. How trauma caused him to become batman. How he treats villains like there his

parents killers. freud was known for many more than just this in the textbook. His

biggest thing was studying the unconscious mind. He believed that our conscious

experiences were the tip of the iceberg.
