February 26, 2018 - The Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA)
has summarily suspended the medical license of Rockford physician Steven
Edward Scranton for alleged criminal sexual conduct with patients.
The Michigan Public Health Code provides for summary suspension of licenses
when the public health, safety, or welfare requires emergency action.
Scranton is accused of criminal sexual conduct with multiple patients over many
years. The allegations include inappropriate sexual comments, physical contact
and requests for improper favors from patients.
On January 30, 2018, Scranton was charged with second and fourth degree
criminal sexual conduct by the 63rd District Court in Grand Rapids.
An order of summary suspension is a temporary measure to protect the public
and not a final determination that a licensee has violated the Public Health Code.
