1-2 Very Poor Errors are too frequent and meaning is impeded.
0 Extremely Poor Incomprehensible.

Language Appropriateness
Marks Description: Language is
5 Excellent Always appropriate (appropriate choice of words). Tone is polite and formal.
4 Good Almost always appropriate (one or two words are not fitting). Tone is polite and formal.
3 Satisfactory Sometimes appropriate (three or four words are not fitting). Tone is slightly less polite and less formal.
2 Poor Often appropriate (many words are not fitting). Tone is less polite and casual.
1 Very Poor Mostly inappropriate (unsuitable words are being used in most parts). Tone is not polite and careless.
0 Extremely Poor Unacceptable for a job application letter.

Part 2: Marking scheme for resume (17 marks)
Layout
 Major sections are in bold or in upper case (if the resume has two pages it needs to have a header)
 Information is logically organized and details can be seen at a glance

Penalty:
Deduct 0.5 mark for each inconsistent spacing or alignment or missing 2 nd page heading (a maximum of 2 marks each).

Content Total = 12 marks (maximum)


For each of the following please award marks accordingly
C1 Career goal/objective (appropriateness; accuracy)
Summary of qualification (optional)
C2 Personal particulars: Name, home address/campus address,
Telephone number, email address
(may also include other relevant information such as age, photo, gender and marital status depending on the
requirement of the advertisement)
C3 Education and academic background: University/College/Diploma/Matriculation/STPM/STAM/SPM).
C4 They should include name of institutions, dates, degree completed or in progress.
C5 Working experience (industrial training etc): List all periods of employment starting with the most recent
C6 one. Begin with job titles, then employers and dates, specific duties and tasks performed. Describe a work
or job accomplishment(s) for the job mentioned.
Mere listing of job experience vs. with description
Deduction if the experience is not relevant to the job applied
C7 Skills/Interests (relevant to job requirements) Language, software, hardware knowledge, interpersonal
C8 communication management skills etc. Relevance of each skill listed to the job advertised.
C9 Activities, achievements and awards (relevant to job requirements): Begin with position held, then
C10 responsibilities, and the awards received. Describe accomplishments (verbs).

Scoring total raw marks for resume = 17 marks.

Overall total = Total raw marks for cover letter + total raw marks for resume = 48 marks
Convert the overall total to 20%; and round up to TWO decimal points.
