An INTERJECTION is a part of speech that expresses an emotion, introduces an idea, or acts as a filler.

Interjections that express emotion use an exclamation point, period, or comma.

ex.
Oh! I didn't know that!
Man, that's not cool.
Wow. You really went there.

Interjections that introduce an idea are followed by a comma.

ex.
Here, let me help you.
Well, I'm not sure.
Yes, it is raining outside.

Filler words take a comma on either side.

ex.
The movie is, like, totally awesome.
I was, um, only kidding.
