Ready for Advanced

Test Guide
Welcome to Ready for Advanced progress tests. These tests reflect the content of the 14 units in
the Ready for Advanced Coursebook. They have also been designed to reflect the content and
level of the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) exam. The tests, each of which includes Reading
and Use of English tasks, a Listening task and a Writing task, along with a range of question
types, are similar to those in the examination and include topics and vocabulary specified in the
Cambridge English: Advanced syllabus.

There are seven tests, with each test reflecting the content of two units in the Ready for Advanced
Coursebook:

Progress Test 1 ➠ Units 1 and 2

Progress Test 2 ➠ Units 3 and 4

Progress Test 3 ➠ Units 5 and 6

Progress Test 4 ➠ Units 7 and 8

Progress Test 5 ➠ Units 9 and 10

Progress Test 6 ➠ Units 11 and 12

Progress Test 7 ➠ Units 13 and 14

Each test is structured as follows:

Reading and Use of English


There are two Use of English tasks and one Reading task in each test. These
tasks have been covered in the respective units of the Coursebook, and give
students further practice on vocabulary and grammar covered in these units.
Listening
There is one Listening task in each test. The task has been covered in the
respective units of the Coursebook.
Vocabulary
This section of the test gives students further practice on vocabulary items
which are targeted in the respective units of the Coursebook.
Writing
There is one Writing task in each test. The task type has been covered in the
respective units of the Coursebook.

The Progress Tests are available in two formats: as a PDF file and also in a format which can be
edited to suit the needs of students, if desired.
