Thoughts on the Necrosurgeon and Stitch Thralls

Necrosurgeon in a nutshell
You take the necrosurgeon if you're fielding mechanithralls, and she greatly increases the
unit's resilience. Also, if your or your opponent's army includes living models, there is a
good chance the mechanithrall unit will grow beyond its starting size.

She also has some use as a healer.

Combos & Synergies

She can be useful with either version of Skarre, since Skarre tends to cut herself to
boost her special abilities.
Fielding mechanithralls, the necrosurgeon, and a Sepulcher can make your recursion
mechanic extremely hard to stop.

Drawbacks & Downsides


If the entire mechanithrall unit is wiped out, you can't use Necrosurgery.
If you position the necrosurgeon badly, she could be killed easily. For instance an
AOE weapon that scatters onto her can kill her quite easily, and she can't trigger
Sacrificial Pawn against it because it's not a direct hit.
The stitch thralls have no melee weapons, which means they can't charge nor engage
enemies nor make free strikes. The best they can do (other than collect corpses) is
block enemy charge lanes.
Sometimes you run into activation order dilemmas:
You want the stitch thralls in place to collect the enemy corpses. So you need
to activate the necrosurgeon unit first and run into position. But position them
badly, and the stitch thralls can block the mechanithralls charge.
You want as many mechanithralls as possible. But you can't use your action
and run the stitch thralls on the same turn, so you risk the thralls not being in
position to collect.
You want the necrosurgeon safely hidden at the back of the mechanithralls,
but this can mean the mechanithralls block the necrosurgeon moving
forwards.
You can get around a lot of these issues by having more than one necrosurgeon
and/or more than one mechanithrall unit.

Tricks & Tactics


Keep one mechanithrall towards the back of the table, that way your opponent can

never completely wipe out the unit and can always use necrosurgery.
If you're using this trick then note that, as per the errata on spell casting, if
any model in a unit is out of formation then the unit can't be affected by
friendly spells.
If the necrosurgeon dies, the stitch thralls can still control/contest scenario
objectives.
Be smart about where you move before using necrosurgery - with clever positioning
your newly-created mechanithralls can bypass free strikes, charge opponent's back
arcs, or even get placed on the far side of walls!
Stitch thralls don't have to be in formation for you to benefit from their collection
range.

Rules Clarifications
Necrosurgery
She may convert up to three corpse tokens into three mechaninthralls (at a 1-to-1
ratio) as a special action.
She may not create Brute thralls because they're not Grunt models.

Body Snatcher edit

You can have an unlimited number of corpse tokens.


You can collect corpses from Brute Thralls (refer "Game Terms", page 29 of Prime).
You do not need LOS to the destroyed models.
Body Snatcher (unit)
If there are multiple models eligible for collecting a corpse token and you need
to determine the closest, then you measure to the Leader (the Necrosurgeon)
not the Grunts (the stitch thralls).
The grunts don't count as "models eligible for collection" - they merely
extend the range the Necrosurgeon can collect from.
The grunts don't need to be in formation to collect.
A grunt that dies in the same attack as a mechanithrall (caught in the same
AOE for instance) may collect the corpse token, because the stitch thrall
model is still on the table when both of them reach the "destroyed" stage.

Necrosurgery and/or Necroindustry


The new mechanithralls must be placed in formation with an existing mechanithrall

unit, you may not create a new unit.
You don't need LOS to any mechanithrall models that you create.
The new mechanithralls can activate the same turn they were created IF the unit they
joined has not yet activated.

Officer edit

An Officer can give any order that is on the unit's card. (A Ranking Officer can't,
though).
When the Officer dies, the Leader model becomes the new Unit Commander (you
don't get to choose).
But if your unit doesn't include a Leader model, then you do get to choose any of the
remaining models to be the new Unit Commander. You don't swap the model, but it
may be worth putting a token down so you can tell that grunt apart.

Sacrificial Pawn edit

Sacrificial Pawn doesn't work against melee or magic attacks. It does work against
Magical Ranged attacks, though.
Sacrificial Pawn doesn't work if you're clipped by an AOE - ie when you're hit but not
directly hit by an AOE.
Using it moves all damage and effects onto the pawnee - including stuff that triggers
"on hit."
The new model hit (the "pawnee") may use any abilities that trigger on being
hit/damaged by an enemy ranged attack. Such as Bane Knights's Vengeance move
Infernal Ruling .
Sprays and AoEs
A model hit by a ranged spray attack can use Sacrificial Pawn to pass it to
another model. The placement of the template does not change.
A model directly hit by a ranged AOE may use Sacificial Pawn to pass it to
another model. The new model is directly hit but the AOE remains where it is.

Infernal Ruling
Note that this may cause the Pawn to be hit twice by the same spray/AOE. So
you then resolve two damage rolls against it.
Sacrificial Pawn multiple times
If a model with the Sacrificial Pawn ability passes it to another model that also
has Sacrificial Pawn ability, that second model may pass it along to a third
model. Infernal Ruling
A model can only use Sac Pawn once, you cannot set up an infinite loop!
